[DSL Reoprts] Comcast Hacked - Page 3

Meh. I'd rather have people redirecting Comcast's main page to some text than someone spreading viruses.

You sound like George Bush.

Personally I'd rather have 5,000 people die in a planned plane crash than someone setting off a nuke.

By the way this isn't "cyber terrorism":
  1. I don't think anyone was filled with terror
  2. This was just done as proof that they could do it
It would be cyber terrorism if someone hacked Paypal and stole a *euphemism* load of money.

yeah, try living in a smaller region where it's either cable internet or dial up. (no competition = slower speeds [than larger areas] + high prices + little control) given the situation, which would you choose?

I seem to recall a favorite quote of mine right about now:

"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."

just remember that the Founding Fathers, had they not succeeded, would have been tried and convicted as terrorists against Parliment and the King. But, as most people here would agree, they did the right thing.

I'm not condoning the act of hacking or anything, but I can see that alot of people feel that comcast deserves it. I personally have comcast as well, and when I torrent files, I tend to average about 200-600 kb/sec, so I'm not displeased ith the service at all. the bottlenecking seems to come from the servers I download from and not the hub I bounce thru on comcast's side.

in a nutshell, comcast got haxed, some people cheered, some people got sand in their vaginas, and the world kept turning.

I love how a thread about Comcast getting hacked has turned into a Bush-bash fest.

Cause everyone knows that hes the antichrist, eats babies for breakfast, and has regular meetings with terrorist leaders to plan world domination.

/Ontopic

I dont condone hacking, but with Comcast acting how it has been, they had it comin' to them.

Personally, this just sends a message to Comcast that people don't like them throttling their bandwidth.
Effing sigged. And wonder why you would hack an ISP.

I hear what you're saying...I'm not exactly a fan of Comcast...but "comin' to them" really means "comin' to me," because that's who it affected, people like me, and my parents, and so on.

If this article is half accurate, these guys seem like real losers. I hope they get their lives together. My less forgiving side, though, has other feelings on the subject

The computer attackers who took down Comcast's homepage and webmail service for over five hours Thursday say they didn't know what they were getting themselves into.

In an hour-long telephone conference call with Threat Level, the hackers known as "Defiant" and "EBK" expressed astonishment over the attention their DNS hijacking has garnered. In the call, the pair bounded freely between jubilant excitement over the impact of their attack, and fatalism that they would soon be arrested for it.

"The situation has kind of blown up here, a lot bigger than I thought it would," says Defiant, a 19-year-old man whose first name is James. "I wish I was a minor right now because this is going to be really bad..."

Someone is upset with Comcast.

I'm shocked someone managed to hack an ISP. Isn't the security on those servers some of the best there is? Social engineering had to have played a huge roll.

The idea i am trying to show here, is that money does in fact make the world turn. People who don't have a lot of money can't really force the turning to their wants/needs...

IMO, it has been to bad that we, as a civilization, allow big corporations control so much. We can't really fight back In most countries. The places that allow for people to defend defined rights, have to wade through so much legal paperwork, that it is just not cost effective for a firm to take it on, or the people just don't have the money them selfs to fight it.

I am in no way advocating terrorism. People these days like to take things to far. Thinking one thing, when it really is another. Since the whole 9/11 situation, people are more willing to claim the whole terrorism thing. Hence why the patriot act came to tuition...

I feel that some corporations are terrorists in some degree, in them selfs, and people have the right to defend them selfs from it. Hacking a Comcast isn't the brightest idea, but i proves a point. It started this whole thread, and hopefully many more about what exactly was the point of this action.

Cool..they found some bad hole in comcast's security and changed some stuff around.
They obviously arent seasoned hackers or they wouldnt be putting their name out like that or using the same alias everywhere. Especially the simple text and shoutouts.
They couldve done a LOT with that page, good thing they werent idiots. (or, to say-were).
goodluck to them!
