first build, feedback welcome!

hey guys, this is my first post here. I'm planning on building a new system and wanted to see if i can get any feedback. what not to buy, what is a good buy and over clocking help! thanks in advnace. here is what i'm planing out:

Mobo: ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX
Cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz
Gfx: XFX GeForce 9800 GTX Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
Ram:2x)Patriot Viper 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200 RPM SATA (i don't need much)
Optical drive: ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA
Case: APEVIA X-Plorer ATXB8KLW-BK/420 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower 420W Power Supply
Monitor:CHIMEIBlack 22" 5ms

I'm fairly new at building machines so any feedback would be helpful. Also wanted to see if there is a good (nicely priced) heatsink.(or any extra cooling) I want to be able to over clock the cpu. i've been seeing that the cpu is overclockable to over 4ghz. thanks for the help!

$1,450 total for that...mmmm weak link: PSU! A 420W Apevia isn't going to power that... not even by a long shot!

Some changes (CPU, MoBo, GPU, and RAM. PLEASE don't get 4x1GB... 2x2GB is the better choice, and this G.Skill is more than good enough).
  • APEVIA X-Plorer ATXB8KLW-BK/420 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W Power Supply $79.99
  • EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard $189.99
  • 2X XFX PVT98FYDBU GeForce 9800 GTX Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card $499.98
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $119.99
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 $194.99
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ $84.99
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250310AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $59.99
  • CHIMEI CMV 221D Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 330 cd/m2 800:1 $229.99
  • ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model DRW-2014L1T $35.99
  • XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler $36.99
Subtotal: $1,532.89

SLI-ed 8800GTS 512MB will beat a 9800GTX by far. The E8400 is already enough for 4.0GHz.

awesome man, thank you so much!

I wouldn't get the 9800gtx, either wait for the expensive new series or get an 8800GTS. The 8800GTS is only 1-2fps slower and is ALOT cheaper. And get a nice corsair 750w PSU. The e8400 is as good as the e8500 and a fair bit cheaper. I must say other than the cpu cooler, I can't fault Chozarts build . As for a cpu cooler, I would go fore the OCZ Vendetta 2.

honestly i would get a case that doesn't come with a power supply and just get my own

and i have an xplorer case and it's really small. cable management is a pain in the ass.

ok here's the new set up:

tower:APEVIA X-CRUISER
Mobo:EVGA NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX
Gfx:GeForce 8800GTS (x2)
Psu:CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
Cpu:Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale
Ram:G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin
Storage:Seagate Barracuda 250GB
Monitor:CHIMEI 22"
Optical:ASUS Black 20X DVD+R 8X
Cpu cooling:XIGMATEK 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

is there anything i'm missing? except mouse/keyboard and stuff like that. Since i'm going to be running 2 video cards should i put in any gpu cooling or anything? at this point i pretty much reached my spending limit but anything you can suggest i'm all ears. Also does anyone have a step by step overclock walkthrough for noobs? i read through the post on the site here and it was informative but i'm lookin for something a little deeper. Thanks for the help all.

Looks good to me theres nothing else exept some thermal paste (AS5) Aftermarket GPU cooling shouldn't be needed. The only other point is the case, if you like it thats great, but there are nicer quality cases out there. You might want to consider a larger Hard Drive, they fill up surprisingly quickly.

This is a nice case -

This is an even nicer case with a window-

I don't mind suggesting a few I like, but its a very personal choice, what I like you may not . I really like this case as I said above -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119077 (it has a nice window and is nice and compact with good build quality.)

Don't know if you like bay doors though.

EDIT:
Anything by Cooleraster or Thermaltake should have good build quality

if you want more bang out of you buck i suggest you SLI two 8800GTs, for $145 each(after rebate). they scale really well in SLI arent that much slower than 8800GTS'es in SLI.
