Bad Chip Q6700 on Evga 780i?

Thread Starter
I got my evga 780i yesterday and I had a lot troubles installing Vista x64, forget about the long story. Now my system works fine and I'm starting to overclock. I'm try to run 1600FSB and I can only use x8 or x9. Don't wanna get to 4.0GHz, so can't use x10 mulitplier. I'm able to run 3.6Ghz 1600FSB x9 multiplier @ 1.4750 vcore. It runs fine, but I use CPU Z, I saw the vcore dropped to 1.424, but haven't do a Prime test yet. My core temps are 48,48,44,44 with video playing. Is this temp ok?

I try to run 1600FSB with x8 multiplier @ 1.375 vcore, but system restart after the logo post. It restart 3 time than bios got in safe mod. I'm using P04 Bios. I wonder do I have a bad chip or it's the mobo itself?

Thanks in advance.

If your Q6700 is G0 Stepping, as long as it's stays under 70°C it should be fine.

Overclocking a quadcore cpu is slightly more challenging than a dual core in the fact you will have to adjust GTL reference values above 350 FSB to be stable not just vcc and vtt.

Does this apply to the 680i too? Maybe this is why my 6600 isnt taking anything above 355mhz fsb...
