Mkay. Now I assume you have the torrent file. If you are looking for a program to open the torrent itself, there is bittorrent, utorrent, limewire, etc. What exactly do you need help with?
Well he's definitely not downloading windows. paul would gladly give m$ the $400 along with a nice 25% tip.

All joking aside:

1. Download your torrenting software
2. Install it
3. Open up TCP Port 6881 in your router as well as your windows/software firewall (or whichever your program specifies; usually is 6881)
4. Double-click your torrent file

It should start automatically. You usually get options like how much bandwidth to dedicate for upload and download. You can also pause the download and resume it at any later time.

I find that torrent downloads are kinda... "weird." They start really slow and take forever to get up to speed, and sometimes they don't even use your maximum bandwidth for whatever reason. They're good for downloading things on release date, though, such as Linux distros. FTPing the download on release day always sucks.

Personally I'm quite fond of uTorrent as a Windows client.

The biggest issue you're probably going to have Paul is with your firewalls, whether they be hardware, software, or both. Pick a port you'd like to use for BitTorrent (preferably something uncommon, I/E not 80 (HTTP), 21 (FTP), etc; 6881 is common with Azuerus, but realistically most anything will get the job done). You'll want to either open this port in your firewalls for both the TCP and UDP protocols or use whatever the port forwarding procedures are in your router to ensure that BitTorrent packets are allowed into your network. Just as an extra measure of security since I'm intentionally placing a hole in my firewalls, I like to run PeerGaurdian whenever I am using uTorrent just for some extra piece of mind. (That is why it is recommended to not use a port that would commonly be spammed with crap)

You should forward ports to your computer (to allow incoming connections, and make downloads WAAAAAAAAAY faster) if you have a router. uTorrent will tell you if there is a problem.

Also, do a speedtest.net test without using any torrents or downloading anything to find out exactly how fast your connection is. Then limit your upload speed to 1\\10th of the upload that speedtest says. I.E if it says 12,921 DL - 874 upload, limit your upload to about 87 kb\\s in utorrent.

Also, when in uTorrent, goto options, preferences. Then from the list on the left collum , goto bittorrent and on the bottom of that page drop the box of protocol encryption from "disabled" to "enabled" and check the box for incoming legacy connections.

Then set the max number of peers per torrent to 100, and the max global to 300 or so. Also change the number of upload slots from 4 to 6 or more (I like to use it as 1\\10th of my upload speed, so as per my example above, you would have 8 or 9 upload slots).

I don't intent to download a whole lot. Just a few programs I use have very large patches are released via torrents and they are suppose to be much faster than the file servers.

These changes take only a few minutes, and generally help speed up your download (though it does depend on the upload speed of the peers you're connected to and your internet line speed).

Yes, I was just posting again to tell you to use Peer Guardian, as even though you are downloading legal torrents, there are idiots that will try to slow down your download by sending you bogus packets. ISP's are doing this now (some) The Torrent software will ban those IP's, and Peer Guardian blocks all the known bad TCP and UDP requests from companies like Media Defender and such, they think everybody that is using Torrents are downloading illeagal stuff, which is so unfair to us good guys. Reminds me I need to finish downloading Season 3 of House MD hehe....

Sorry to say but there is no way you can torrent. According to your sig it says that you go to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University that being a college they block ALL bittorrent traffic from linux distros to pr0n's.

I use usenet/newsgroups. I pay $15 and i get the transfers SSL'd and unlimited transfers if you want to know more about it than shoot me a PM.

The SSL "SHOULD" get you past college DPI but not 100% sure.

Oo, I never looked at that. Nice catch. I guess newsgroups or Rapidshare are your only options... Unless you want to download it via FTP.

I'd don't live on campus and Riddle doesn't monitor, block, or throttle any network traffic. Private schools do what they want.
