Overclock on 8600GT

Thread Starter
Hi there! Today I did my first overclock on my 8600GT, I want to know if it's a good oc. I was a bit worried about doing this since it has the stock fan on it and its in a a6223w HP case.

600 MHz core - 680 MHz core
400 Mhz mem - 450 Mhz mem
Shader is clocked at 1500, I forgot what it used to be

it get 50C-60C idle(depending on the temperature of my room)
I can easily get 70-75 while under load, I have though hit 80C before.

Should I try 700MHz core and 500 mem? note: I did a test with 700MHz core and Gears of War crashed while testing.

Thanks for your time

Also, every time I see somebody's memory clock it's usually over 1000, is mine 'too' low?

Not without putting a real fan on it... The 8600's are skimped way too much when it comes to cooling...

Pick up a zalman VF900 and you will be ok

And NO.... Keep ur memory below 1000 if you wana keep it for any time....

I run mine 700/1700/975 24/7 and 1000 for benching

Plus you are looking at 8800's not 8600's

hmm, 680 MHz core and 450 mem is running good. But, do you advise me to lower the clocks a bit..? If I keep my 8600GT at these clocks do you think my video card will last for atleast 2 years ..?

What I might do is keep stock clocks while I'm not under load, and just overclock the GPU when I'm going to play a power hungry game like Crysis.... Sound like a better idea than keeping it oc'd ALL the time?

oohh, I read somewhere that overclocking the video card will shorten the lifespan.. Anyways.. The fan on my GPU is good enough, I think. I just want this v card to last for atleast 2 years.

BTW, Thank you flag182, 10acjed for help

When clocking them mem on cards with DDR ram just remember that means Double Data Rate ......In other words a clock of 500 actual is 1000 effective( I may have the actual and effective reversed but you get the point)

When I had my 8600GT's in SLi My 24/7 clock was 665core,1460Shader,850Merm(1700)

yeah.. Idk daisukeJP but as triplesec said " DDR means double data rate" so i'm guessing that Rivatuner set the memory sliders as if it were DDR2
