Core2Quad core temperatures

Okay... I installed my new Core2Quad Q6600 last night on my sound design studio computer and i'm a little iffy about the temperatures. The first few times I started up the computer it would load windows and then just restart itself. It didn't shut itself down or anything... just completely hard restarted itself.

After messing with the heatsink for a bit I finally got windows to load correctly and i started doing some small benchmarking. I've used both SpeedFan and CoreTemp and i'm just curious.... my core temps are the moment idle at about 47 48 40 and 45. It seems like even doing something like scrolling in a website can bring the temp of one core to 51 and it puts like a 30% load on it.

Are these temperatures normal? I was playing farcry earlier today just to see how smooth it would run and the computer restarted itself again but i didn't have a chance to see the temps of any of the cores when it did it... is it possible this could just be a graphic card driver issue not sitting well with the four cores? What is the normal temp that a motherboard would consider overheating and force a restart?

I'm just all confused. Is it normal for cores to be 4 different temperatures? Right now my card is an nvidia geforce 6200. I had to use older drivers because the newest ones were messing with my video play in internet explorer. I'm actually using the control panel v1.5.3 which i know is old as hell.

Any suggestions? Can you educate me at all about the normal behavior of a core2quad? I really don't know what to expect but it seems like i see the second core being utilized more than any of the others... is this normal?

Thats pretty high idle. What cooler are you using?

Ceiling for that chip is 65c. Under load temps can jump 20-30%

I have my friends quad running 60-62C 24\\7 @ 3Ghz on stock voltage on a AF7P.

Your temps are high, even for stock speeds. If you are using the stock cooler, did you put aftermarket thermal paste on it (Arctic Silver 5?)

Have you tried running a program like prime or orthos in conjunction with coretemp?

That will tell you your load temps.

I use protools on a daily basis which stresses the cores pretty bad. I had not yet used anything like CoreTemp to see it under heavy load though.
