[Fud] 8600 PCI Card, Coming...... - Page 7

Seriously? You're going to buy yet another POINTLESS "UPGRADE" to your Pentium 3? You have got to be kidding me. And here I was reading your posts and thinking you were SMART with your money!

The PCI bus can only power so much for a graphics card. There just isn't enough speed on it. HENCE THE REASON WE ALL SWITCHED OVER TO AGP! THEN PCI EXPRESS. The cards are faster than the older buses allow...hence the switch!

And you're wanting a 128bit or higher PCI card????? It ain't gonna happen BECAUSE the bus just cannot support it. It has nothing to do with the card....its the PCI BUS.

********************
Now with my rant out of the way:

I fully understand where you are coming from $till LegendaryU2K. Saving money is what we overclockers do. But you are about 5 years PAST saving money on your Pentium 3 rig. Its just too old man! And now you're talking about buying a new PC to play newer games on, and still play your old ones on your P3? Why? The new machine could play your older games WAY better than the P3 can...and with the P3 not on all the time, you'd spend less money on your power bill.

You're talking like you prefer to save money.....but in all reality, you're just throwing money away. New graphics cards for a P3? You know what my last upgrade on my P3 was? A 16MB Voodoo 3 AGP card. And you know what...I'll bet I get the same FPS in games (that are playable) as you do with your 2400 or whatever. Because of the fact that I know that a Pentium 3 just can't really use anything more than that. You need to learn the limits of your hardware.

But I'm done trying to help you. Others have tried, and obviously failed. And I'll admit, I flamed ya on your Crysis thread, and for that I appologize. But seriously man...you are failing big time with that P3...if it even exists. Its just absolutely POINTLESS to spend money and get no gain out of your computer.

Why the hell would you want a PCI GFX card?!

Go AT THE BARE MINIMUM AGP.

I say PCI-E > v1 is good.
PCIE-E v1 is okay,
And AGP so-so.
DEFINITELY NOT PCI!

Lollerskates++.

I would like to see that with a caption or something hilarious like that. I mean, seriously now. Why the hell would you want to have your graphics go through some PCI card? PCI is good for data transfer stuff like data; files, RAID, SATA, LAN, WIFI, etcetera.

I would definitely not recommend using PCI for graphics. It would probably hang up a bit, and SLI, well, is out of the picture entirely.

And when your computer is 8 years old, and still working perfect and you really have no trouble playing games, well whats the point in upgrading?
What kind of games are you playing? Spongebob's Underwater Adventure? lol

Not going to work very well since PCI is a shared bus. The bandwidth for a card is the same for all the slots, total.

When i do buy Vista, from gateway( gateway computer of course ) with a super card or whatever, i am pretty sure i won't be able to play some games that i own now. You think Vista will be able to play Turok 2, or Blood 2, or Driver, etc. Thats why its wise to have 2 computers, one for the newer games and one for the older games. So this PIII which has been working since 2000, is not going anywhere. Its my main computer, only thing when i buy my second computer, that computer will be for the new games and this computer will be for the older games. I don't see any harm trying to find a good decent working, stable PCI card. And i hope out of the 8500, 8400, 8600 or even the Diamond Stealth X1550, one of them works perfect.

Anyways, if anyone miss this before, this is my PSU status:

I took off the sticker and put it on one of my Xbox games. So now you can see what type of PSU i have.

Actually, I can answer a few of those questions right now. Turok 2 does work in Vista. Driver works in Vista. Never played Blood 2. You'd really be surprised at the compatibility for Vista . That's what I've been TRYING to get across to you. Its pointless to keep that old hunk o stuff laying around. Your new PC WILL be able to do all your older games...unless you still play DOS games (ewww). I've found MAYBE 1 program that I used to run, that doesn't work in Vista (forgot what it was, that's how important it was). And the ones that I did have problems with, I just updated them and they were fine.
