Auto VCore is only option?

Thread Starter
On my Asus P5B board with c2d e7200 and latest bios, the only option for my VCore is [auto]. Why is that? I can set the FSB and everything else, but it won't let me touch the voltage.

Also, what would be an acceptable core temperature for this processor under load?

Cool. Any idea why it won't let me choose my vcore?

Some boards don't let you, it's all the manufacturer. Some have amazing options, some don't.

You can still OC it, but will hit an instability wall because you can't up the Vcore.

I had an ASUS P5ND2-SLI and I could change everything, but the voltage settings weren't on the same menu as the clock tweaks. It did list the Vcore in a few places but I could only change it in one menu.

Can you change any other voltage?

Just a thought but maybe the voltage auto setting is only enabled once EIST and speedstep are turned off. Sounds like a really daft feature but, meh, its possible. Just press all the buttons and see if you can activate it.

Nope, didn't work. The auto option was still the only thing present.

Yeah. The auto setting has been upping my vcore as I went from an FSB of 266 to 326. However, the "wall" for me lies between 326 and 333, because at 333 it wouldn't boot and that was my target. The vcore as reported by cpu-z @ 326 MHz FSB (3.097 GHz core speed) switches between 1.136V and 1.144V.
