Opinions Wanted for my Project

Thread Starter
Hello,

I am a GCSE student (English equivalent of 10th Grade) who is doing research before I start to design my case. I am making a computer case that is for the living room. Because of the materials and techniques available to me I will most likely be making the case out of wood with a small amount of aluminium and acrylic.

Please can you answer my questionnaire and post it or PM it to me.

Most of the people here will not know what a GCSE is, so it would probably be best to elaborate on that a bit.

All I know is that while you are in (equiv. to High School in the USA) you have to have a major and a minor to study.

On the unit you are planning, they are referred to as a "Media Center" PC (or Home Theater PC- HTPC). If you do a quick search on Media Centers, maybe you can grab some ideas, then try to make it better with your own?

Do you have a computer?: Yes

Do you have a computer in your living room?: Sort of, my house is kind of open plan, so I'm technically in the hallway, but it can be seen from the living room.

If no, would you ever get a computer in your living room? If no, why not?: I would like a media PC next to the TV to enjoy online content such as the BBC iPlayer, and also to use the PC's PVR capabilities.

If yes, what problem have you found with your computer?: It was a no, but I could see the case being too big/bulky/ugly.

What would a living room PC have to have?:Small case, silent operation, PVR/TV tuner capabilities.

What are the appeals of a living room PC for you?: Recording TV shows onto a huge HDD and watching online video content.

Which is more important to you? Design or Function?: Equal, design is okay, but you have to live with something, and if it doesn't function it is pointless having it.

I have no other comments

Good luck with your project

What would a living room PC have to have?:

What are the appeals of a living room PC for you?: Fast access to DVD collection via hard-drives (as opposed to hunting DVD's on shelf), space saving (one pc vs a shelf of DVDs + Cd's) Just all out coolness.

Which is more important to you? Design or Function?: Both, it has to be functional and reliable but look pretty nice as well to make a sweet A/V setup.

Any other comments?: Nah
