I can warmly recommend the P5N-D, though you need to fiddle with nForce driver versions to reach a stable set-up, if you are using SATA optical drives, that is.

Also, I don't like accompanying tools and OC'ing software, they feel... 'plasticky' and cheap.

Well, I will be using a IDE DVD drive. Also, what version is the DS3R's PCIE 16? Cause I know the P5N-D is PCIE 2.0. And yeah I know what you mean, the ASUS OC tools are pretty cheep.

If you don't plan to SLI, intel P35/X38 chipset board is the way to go. Also, take a look at x38-ds4.

Planning on going with SLI in the future, then ASUS P5N-D, otherwise GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R.
