[vr-zone] GT200 Prices up! - Page 3

And then again there might be price cuts, u never know.
Don't know where you got 350 for a 4870 I haven't seen many numbers that high up for the 4870. More likely in the 250 range at launch and then settling around where the 3870 is around. The 4870x2 will come in around where the 3870x2 was around launch. ATI isn't going to be beaten on price, I guarantee that.

They are going to do what they always do.
There are plenty of people who only care about getting the latest and greatest,
many such people are here on this site.

So they put it out super expensive for a few weeks to catch the suckers who can't wait, and then they drop the price by 5-10% every couple of weeks after that until it normalizes.

Well, due to the poor offering of Chipsets by non-AMD producers for AMD platform, particularly NVIDIA's nForce 780A which seems to have only added two things compared to the 590 SLI chip, coupled with the massive prices for these cards (if confirmed) I will likely be going to my old-school AMD+Radeon builds with a 790FX + Crossfire.

I really doubt these cards from NV will be that much better, if at all when compared to the RV770 series so going this route seems to only make sense. I refuse to jump ship to Intel and will wait for AMD's 45nm offerings, albeit in DDR2 most likely as currently DDR3 performance is nothing special and the price is way too high

Meh forget that, way too much.. I think ill hold onto what I have now until I cant play a game on high.
This is a pretty good guideline I must say. My system currently plays everything I play on High/Very High settings (WIC, AoE3, Tiberium Wars, all on maxed out settings) so it really does not seem like I have a reason to upgrade quickly.

Well, look here

Personally i wouldn't count on that prices myself, but since ATI lovers jump on any prediction or whatever before the launch, i'll just do the same. nVidia released their prices, but who knows, things can still change.

There's no doubt that ATI is the best choice for budget builds (unless nVidia will release something new in mid-range), put nVidia's performance isn't something ATI can do right now and i don't see the situation changes any time soon.

And i bet performance of GTX 280 is there. Those who went to Editor's Day and under NDA is saying "prepare to be amazed" and that stands for something and there's no reason to doubt them. People can choose to believe Inq or whatever crappy source there is and, i gotta say. those ATI fanboys referring to that kind of sites a is there's any proof and all they say is a guarantee.

Sorry, but it is a complete waste of money to buy any of these at release. Prices will drop in the first 2 or 3 months. Also, by then, you'll have a better idea of how they stack up. I do think it is funny that, unless you are gaming at crazy resolutions, there is no need for much more power as it is until games can utilize them more.

well the g80 prices didn't exactly fall like bricks. as long as this thing is the king by a wide margin, I don't see the prices falling all that much. hopefully ati keeps the pressure on with their price/performance ratio. g92 prices are a good example.

hopefully you aren't referring to me as a fanboy, as my first card was the 8800GTS 320, moved up to the 8800GTX and then moved over to the 3870. The 8800GTX scores higher than the 3870, I won't deny that. But it cost about 1/3rd what the GTX cost me, and two of them will cost less and outperform one 8800GTX. The 280 will be better than the 4870, heck the 260 might even be better than the 4870, but they will both cost more I imagine, and the 4870x2 is supposed to be better than the 280 AND cost less. So calling ATI budget build material is silly, when the 3870x2 is a beast of a card and when you don't have to run an Nvidia chipset to run multi card combos like CrossfireX on any Intel chipset board, that just means you can save on the motherboard as well. Overall, as it goes I imagine that Nvidia typically has a stronger card, but at a steep cost, and ATI has decent cards for VERY good prices.

Anyone seen any benches to know if we should be looking to buy these cards?
Luckily for me, I won't actually be able to afford it till a few months after, so hopefully it'll drop in price.

And of course, that is assuming the performance is all there. If it doesn't perform better then a 9800GX2 then I won't be upgrading at all this generation.
