Asus A8N SLI-Premium Help

Hey i just joined the site as it seems to be a good place to get good opinions on computer tech issues from peeps that know what there doing. soo heres my problem. im running an operton 165 on this mobo, have a 8600gts 650w psu, a sb audigy sound card and a wireless net card, have lots of fans and a zerotherm butter fly on the processor. The thing is any time i load up cod4 i randomly shut down. I have seen some post that updates to the bios may help but i have new sweet clue how to do that, also the heatpipe that runs on the board is extremely hot, could this be a problem as well. Any help would be much appreciated

What are your system's temperatures? (CPU Core, Motherboard, GPU, etc.)

Do any other programs/games make your rig shut down as well? Or is this something that is specific to CoD4?

It might be that the system is throttling down when it hits a threshold temperature.

Those temps are also a little on the high side. Do you know your ambient temperature?

I used to own an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, myself (or to be more exact I'm in the process of selling it). It would be helpful if you posted what revision of the board you have, and the bios that you are currently running under. Without that kind of information all we can do is guess. It could be that you are running an older bios that doesn't fully support the processor that you are using. Or it could be that a temperature level is being reached that causes your system to shutdown in order to protect from overheating. Like i said, just a guess...

well bios is 1005 i know theres an update for 1010 but i dont know how to update bios, tcasemax if thats what u mean by ambient temp is 65 celcius. and i do agree about temps being high, when i first bought the zerotherm butterfly on the cpu i was idling 22/28. i still startup at that temp, but just slowly watch it climb.

board rev is 1.02 btw

How long ago did you install the Zerotherm Butterfly? It's likely that you need to reseat your CPU cooler.

Also, I don't recall if you mentioned whether or not your system is OCed. What is your CPU's speed right now?

Last, Asus routinely overvolts the CPU Voltage by as much as .5V over stock when the BIOS is set on default settings. What is your VCore?

well the butterfly was only installed 2 mths ago, and my problems were the same before i bought it which in my mind takes the look off the cpu and to the board, i have since taken my system apart, and cleaned the dust out of everything, then reinstalled, it has helped some. i did oc slightly to 2.2ghz over the stock 1.8, temps stayed the same, system was stable, but same random shutdown when i was gaming occured, im thinking it has something to do with the heatpipe on the mobo as it is the only thing in my system that is hot and by hot i mean it cooks my finger tip, is there any known issues with the nforce fanless design cooling pip or does it alwasy run hot. as for voltage, i will check when i get home from work

now i also know this mobo has protection features to protect system compontents from damage due to heat, is it possible that one of my other components like my graphics card(im pretty sure it shuts my comp down at 130 celcius as i had a 6600gt blow its fan and over heat at that temp), sound card, network card may be overheating.

alright got the voltage 4 you

vcore is 1.32v
3.3v is 3.29
5v is 5.02
12v is 11.77

if you need anything else that may assisit you to assist me i will provide.

on a side note ive read threw various sites that updating the bios on this board when running opertons is recommended, so is there a stupid guide on how to do this, or a program that just does it like threw a .exe file or something.
