e8400/Rampagex48/DDR8500 OC question

Thread Starter
Hello,
New here, first post. Looking to get a good balance for my set up.

I currently use the "cpu level up" option on my mobo, which takes the E8400 to the E8500. Want a little more but I have the stock cooler. The Rampage board has sooo many heatsinks around the socket, the zalman HS I ordered wouldn't fit.

I think my issue is with the Corsair Dominator 8500 I have. The board defaults it to 800mhz and It appears a little tricky to set to 1066 without changing the CPU frequency crazy.

Question is, does anyone have this set up or close to it and can suggest a good stable OC set up? I certainly want to use all the juice my components will give me.

Thanks for any help and instruction.

Hi,

That is a very nice setup and you should do far with it, those cpu's can hit 3.4+ as long as you have good cooling which I think with a system like that you should invest in a decent cooler.

Also you won't have any problems with the mem as that is DDR2-1066Mhz plenty for OCing on a E8400. Just knock up the FSB a little at a time as see if its stable and BE CAREFULL with temps on that stock cooler.
