can someone give me a reason to go with AMD rather than intel, besides the obvious price difference?

They got good, cheap, quality mobo's with integrated HDMI outs. That, with a 45W X2 would make for an excellent living room PC (especially now that Blu Ray ROM drives are less than $150 .)

For enthusiasts, and overclocking, there really is no reason to go AMD.

a cheap intel chip is gonna be much better than a cheap AMD chip. either way what you do isnt very taxing so i think you could just flip a coin

Yes it will, and it will give you the extra power to move to games if you ever decide to game.

EDIT: Just about any dual core will do actually.. for budget, go for AMD, otherwise shoot for intel.

if your just getting a dual core, amd's 45w parts are really nice, but if your going to get a quad core id just get a q6600.
