At their retail speeds, they are price competitive. So, any sub-$100 AMD chip WILL compete on a price/performance level with Intel parts, IF we neglect overclocking.
exactly my point, beccause im not going to be overclocking

then perhaps you should just buy a dell or something. you can get something for very cheap that will do all that you require. also i think you might be lost

sorry but 1.8C2D = 2.35AM2.....because the conroe/allendale arch can be accurately rated at 12ops/sec as opposed to AM2's 9...about 4/3 the performance clock for clock

and...again 1.8 is stock

you can OC that CPU to about 3GHz, almost every time. and that's a hell of a lot faster than you'll get the AMD to...

and its faster than the corresponding AMD that was posted AT STOCK, even if YOU AREN'T OCING

NOT SO IF YOU AREN'T OVERCLOCKING!
why can't you look at things objectively?
lets look at a dell that would meet your needs. why don't you take virtually ANY low to medium price ranged dell and compare parts, and price?

Okay, the guy is not overclocking, so stop saying that you can overclock a low Intel. At stock, the AMD, specially if taken as a platform, wins out for the OPs purposes. I wouldn't go with a pre-built neither, simply because by building it myself I can have more control on what goes in the system. Stop attacking the guy just because he decided to go AMD.

im not planning on OC right now, but will later most likely, i just want to get something better than i have now on a budget, so amd is looking the best to me right now for a budget, cause intels only Dual core that is not that crappy pentium is over $100

also, im not 100% decided on intel or amd
