Heavy Water

Thread Starter
im sorry if this is a noob question, but i was wondering if anyone had ever tried to use water cooling with heavy water? it keeps its temperature better than normal water so i was thinking if it was easy for people to buy, why wouldnt they use it instead?

It would be pricey. We use deuterated chloroform to run most 1H NMR samples and it's $10 for about 100mL. So D2O would be far more expensive and you would need a lot of it.

I don't know the thermal properties but I don't think it can win over the cost.

EDIT : You aren't getting confused with hard water are you?

i was thinking of deuterium oxide, where it can be used as a coolant or moderator in nuclear power plants, as it doesn't heat up as quickly as normal water. that said, what is the difference between the coolants that you can buy for wc'ing and normal water.

i didn't realize it would be so expensive.

I think the Nazis had to build a huge processing plant in Norway just to create heavy water ...

For their nukes.

Are you Iranian by any chance?

How is that a good thing in a watercooling system where you want to get the heat away from the waterblock as fast as possible? It's not like a nuclear power station where the water is going to boil...

nazis never had nukes. tried to make then, but the US made the first nuke, and nazis lost the war before they could build one.
Germany doesnt even have nukes of their own now.
