But now 2.53 GHZ

I noticed you are using a beta bios, maybe that has something to do with it? I would recommend reflashing to a full release bios. However, first I would wait for some more replies to this thread in the case it isn't your motherboard bios which is causing the problem. Anyone else have an idea?

I think its Speed Step re-enabled on your board which lowers the multi when its not under a load. That's my guess though.

I had this problem before I would set up my overclock in the BIOS and it was fine but when I went into windows in CPU-Z it showed by original clock. The problem was that I had my video card overclock program that controlled my FSB also so after post it would be fine but in windows it loaded the GPU overclock which was original FSB settings. Make sense? If you have something overclocking your GPU that also will overclock your FSB then disalble GPU overclock until you get a stable CPU overclock THEN overclock GPU...

To help the guy who started this thread, when you open your computer, does it detect that your computer has been overclocked? Mine says Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz (8x400)

I think this has probably been mentioned but the processor lowers the multiplier when your computer is ideling to save power.

Did you save your settings when you overclocked your CPU?

Maybe as a last resort (although highly unlikely) has your motherboard battery died?

Ok, back on topic... I'd say it's indeed speedstep. Go into 'Advanced CPU settings' and disable EIST, speedstep, and all those kinds of settings.

I've disabled Speed Step. I think it might be time for another Mother Board Change Grrrrr

What is a Good Mobo (SLI) for under £100 ($200 US) including Shipping
post #19 of 31
an ASUS P5n-D I would recommend they around 150$. They have 2 x16 PCI-E 2.0 slots. They can run CPU's up to 1333 FSB, etc...

There is also the EVGA 750i FTW but with shipping that would put you over budget. Check out newegg as they usually have the best prices and shipping...

id personally fork out for the evga 750i if you can, nice board to work with, nvdidia reference id check all the bios setting's first...

my old P5N-E SLI when if i flashed the bios i had to unplugg the power, remove the battery clear the cmos, put battery back in and then the power and reconfig the bios... worked for me although any oc never seemed stable on that board?
