Point of View 8800GT fan speed?

Thread Starter
I just bought a Point of View 8800GT with HDMI. It has a new design heatsink with a bigger fan than stock.

The problem is that even at idle the fan is too loud to my liking. It makes a hissing sound. I checked with EVGA Precision, EVEREST and Nibitor and the fan speed is at 2% at idle which is 1250 RPM. The idle temp is 51c.

I've had a PNY 8800GT and BFG 8800GT in the past and both had a idle fan speed of 29% (960 RPM).

How can I set the fans RPM on the POV card so the fan rotates at around 1000 RPM?

Looks like the POV card uses a different BIOS (62.92.31.00.2D) than the other two cards which is why the fan speed is still higher with 2% fan speed?

The fan speed is probably being read wrong and if you can't lower it using software, it's probably locked @ full blast in the BIOS.... I had the same issue with my Galaxy 8800GT (2 slot box cooler version)... I ended up making a 2pin to 3pin adapter for the fan, attaching it to an available 3pin connector on the motherboard and then throttling it down in the BIOS (and using Speedfan to up it when needed) ... I eventually replaced it w/ a vf900

I agree with that.

You might just want to get a new cooler.

I can't lower it in software because it is already at 2% speed but I can increase it to anywhere between 2% ~ 100% with 100% sounding like a jet engine.

Its the idle speed I want to lower but since its already at 2% in the bios, I cant lower it any further.

I have attached a screenshot of the bios loaded in Nibitor.
