Tell me about it, we have announcements from think tanks all the time over here in the UK. Some of the stuff they come up with is beyond belief.

One in the last week said that by cracking down on knife crime we will be alienating and infuriating the kids that use and carry knives, causing them to carry knives. Priceless really.

Haha. I couldn't imagine the public's response to a US crackdown on knives. The whole country would be in tears from laughing so hard. You crazy Brits with your anti-weapon laws...

Theres nothing wrong with anti-weapon laws, if the laws are enforced and those that break the law are punished accordingly. A'las that seldom happens

Gingrich is a fascist. I hate when the media capitalizes on sound bites, but this guy poisons the political environment and is one of the reasons why there is so much apathy and distrust of the government.

How is it that this think tank couldn't put the image in context. It's like some douche bag saw it and got so excited he wrote a novel length report on its connection to Al-Qaeda.

Here's the problem - it isn't stupidity.

Al-Qaeda Lifts Propaganda From Spoof News Website
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles...spoof_news.htm

That article refers to this one
Al-CIAda Sock Puppet Zawahiri Claims Iran Behind 9/11 Conspiracy Theories
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles...ock_puppet.htm

It isn't stupidity - at least not on their part. It's about generating fear. Such efforts backfire on occasion, especially when there is an internet full of people freely able to punch holes in the official story.

Oh, I know. It's just really comical reading about that kind of stuff when you get used to society over here. I guess people in most parts of the world would laugh reading about the stupid stories in our news as well.

Oh yeah I wasn't having a dig at you, was just giving an example of how messed up this country is.

Its the same with this country's efforts to combat 'home grown terrorists'. Currently the law says that a suspect can be held for up to 28 days before charges HAVE to be brought or they will be released. This works fine and no problems have arisen.

Now the government wanted to increase this to 90 days, but has decreased this to 42 days after protests. This has still caused outrage as at no time has the 28 limit currently in force, been exceeded or has needed to be extended. So why the need to extend it?

I feel a rant coming on lol

It is weird though, i think it is a cultural difference.

IF you were to implement guns into the UK. The gun crime would be insane, as with your country it is fairly stable.

Likewise if we took guns from you, it just wouldn't be able to be enforced. Like in the UK it is fairly much under control.

I guess it is just because of the way both countries are used to operating. It just goes to show that opposites sides of an argument (guns, anti-gun) can work just as effectively as each other, given that the community is prepared to adhere to the rules.
