Tuniq Tower or the zalman 9700 - Page 3

my vote is towards the tuniq tower. and i think that the stock fan would be suitable. thats what i'm doing whenever i buy my tuniq.

I might suggest a poll. Seems like a tight race.

I'd say Tuniq Tower out of those 2, but overall i'd still say go for a TRUE

The Zalman is a good cooler, but is very sensitive to case airflow. If you have an EXCELLENT front to back airflow, it will perform well, but it won't be able to deal with an overclocked Quad very well. Don't use side or top fans with this cooler, just front to back. It's what this cooler needs.

The Tuniq is the better cooler in just about 99% of all situations, regardless of the nice shiny surface of the Zalman. The Tuniq looks rough, but it does what it needs to do: cool the CPU down under just about any circumstance. And, the fan is easy to replace if you so desire.

I've owned both coolers... I no longer have the Zalman and I now have two Tuniq Towers.

Other coolers that deserve attention are this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233003 and the Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 (if you can find it)

this link should help you better understand the difference between the two coolers. Basically stats that you can overclock higher with a Tuniq compared to a zalman

No one seems to be putting it bluntly enough for my tastes...

The Zalman 9700 was on top back when it's main competitor was the Big Typhoon... that was a looooong time back and it's really about time people stop suggesting it now that there are quad cores capable of putting out 200+W of heat!

Nowadays this cooler just can't keep up and is kind of subpar - especially for the price... SUUURE it looks nice, but that's all you're really dishing out that $50-55 for.... the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 ($35), OCZ Vendetta 2 ($40), and Tuniq Tower($45) all BEAT the 9700 by a decent amount and are all significantly cheaper...

If you're really willing to blow $55 on an air cooler, snag a TRUE - it's leaps and bounds ahead of the 9700 for about the same price

The fact that everyone is still suggesting this old cooler is probably what IS keeping it at such an unreasonable price

Killa, the reason people buy the Zalman, is unlike all of the other high performance coolers - it looks nice

Some people want their computer to look nice as well as performing well, it can keep a Q6700 @3.2GHz cool, and thats fine for most people

I for one, like my computer to look nice, i spend a lot of effort and money on it, and i want it to reflect that

If i just wanted to go OC Crazy, i wouldnt bother buying a TRUE, i'd just buy some dry ice and a pot

Edit: And oh, speaking of CPU coolers that are out dated - the TRUE has been beaten, quite a while ago by the Vendetta 2 - Yet loads of people still think its the best
