To Crossfire or not to Crossfire..? - Page 2

Thread Starter

Every so often i get these random spikes where it seems to lag up. I'm able to run everything at a max resolution for my screen, but i was thinking splitting up the work for my graphics card by running crossfire would help smooth things out. Maybe this is just a memory problem? With games it seems so hard to tell...

what is your 5000+ at? 3.3?, 3.4?

you should see a benefit, but i would find it hard to justify crossfire at 1280x1024. the only reason i went crossfire (a week ago) is because 1920x1200 destroys my computer, lol

but you could always watch the FS threads here on ocn, i got my second one shipped for $135, and i've seen lower

is it usally when the game is like loading on to a entirly different scene, same map but lets say your in bubble world then you move into a door into lava world, it would lag up for a couple secs? Thats normal, the memory game is trying to go to the CPU's cache. a 2nd videocard won't help, the most you can do is defragment your harddrive for faster os and don't put too many tasks in the background.

If you really want an upgrade, the 4870/4850 is just weeks away. crossfire 4870 should be a lot like Hd 3870x2.

Hahaha...i knew when i posted that i had a 17" monitor that someone would catch that and make fun of it. My plan is to eventually get a much better monitor, but on a college student's budget i have yet to get one.

Thanks darksideleader for the clarification on the game issue. Like i said, it's not the biggest deal, and it's usually within the first minute or so of connection to a server.

Oh, and SyncMaster 753...i haven't overclocked my 5000+ BE yet because i'm new to overclocking, but i will be once i scan over these forums a little longer.

Thanks again guys!

I just switched over from a 8800GTS SSC to 2xHD3870 ...

8800GTS overclocked @ 3.2GHz = 12700 3DMark06s
2x3870 stock @ 3.2GHz = 16700 3dMarks

31% improvement...
