[Crymod] No 1.3 Patch - Page 5

While I do wholeheartedly agree that Crysis was not coded very well, I must also say that you blow it way out of proportion. The difference between retail and 1.2 is pretty significant, but there are still a number of issues with the game. A few levels seem to have memory leaks, especially the harbor invasion one (which has a TON). I had to save the game and restart it numerous times in order to restore game performance. By the way, whoever decided to force everyone to watch those @#$*& ads for EA, Crytek, nvidia, Intel, and whatever else every single time you start the damn game should be shot multiple times. It's like rubbing salt in the wound when people have to restart the game periodically due to performance issues. The DVD also seems to have issues reading despite being in perfect condition. Does anyone else notice their drive making bizarre noises when trying to read the Crysis disc?

That being said, I found the game to be very entertaining and it ran very well (all settings Very High, 1680x1050, no AA, DX10) on my Q6600 + 8800GT + Vista64 with 4 gigs of ram. I got a few "out of memory" errors that caused the game to crash from those memory leaks, but it was still very playable. However, as a gamer that is getting tired of companies throwing out unfinished crap, I will not be purchasing their games in the future unless I hear that they seem to be coded well. I don't mind games with high requirements, but poorly coded games are incredibly frustrating. Stop treating us like dirt.

BTW when you chop up the tree's it isn't even dynamic so I don't see a big deal with that at all. I don't see your point with the map sizes as there are some huge maps in TF2, Bioshock, and COD4 that are even bigger than some of the maps in Crysis.

The AI is also a joke in Crysis so I don't see your point there either :/. You can pick up objects in HL2 which is like a 4 year old game so picking up chickens isn't anything major. Those buildings that you destroy aren't really destroyed either. Each building has a top made out of metal sheets that might get blown away and the wood just disappears when you break it. Nothing revolutionary at all and not a good reason to be getting terrible fps on all systems. BTW if Farcry doesn't look that bad on your computer than lets see some screen shots because as far as I'm concerned it looks that bad maxed out on my computer too.

You also still haven't answered any of my questions....If anything you proved my point even more. Just because when HL2 was released it was the first game to offer fully dynamic physics where you could move all of the objects and what not and there was rag dolls. Yet, it could run maxed out on any decent system at that time without any fps problems.
So basically you have no proof that Crysis is poorly optimized you just have your own conclusions and beliefs which is fine if that’s what you believe, but it’s not proof.

I do agree COD4 looked great and played even better.

It is true that Crytek's developers aren't that great. The best example would be the last map where it's easy to lock yourself out of completing the game for missing to pick up the TAC cannon since the game won't allow you to go back and do it.
Another good example would be that on high settings distant textures look worse than they do on medium.
Also there are user made configurations for graphics that give better frame rates than stock settings at the same detail level.
I also had trouble patching the game since the patches had to first extract themselves on C drive. Since I didn't have enough space they gave an error message and quit and I had to manually track down the location where they extracted and delete the incomplete files.

not necessarily. Most of the times, it's been the games fault for not supporting it.

You guys are essentially saying that a car is more efficient that an 18 wheeler because it gets more MPG. But in reality the 18 wheelers engine is far more efficient, it is just carrying a lot more weight.

FPS cannot accurate describe the optimization of code in a game. Just like MPG cannot describe the efficiency of engines in vehicles.

It's about as close to proof as you can get. The only other way to prove that it is unoptimized would be for another game programmer to debug all of the code and how the graphics are set up along with all of the other core game mechanics.

Pass it to the left man......that must be some good stuff you're smoking
If thats your opinion than so be it. IMHO The AI in Crysis is pretty terrible compared to the newer fps's out there. I would have to say that the AI in Crysis is only a tad bit better than the AI in Farcry. I also wish that I still had Crysis on my computer because from what I remember Crysis mixes low resolution and high resolutions textures. IE, the rocks and tires use extremely low resolution textures a long with a lot of other things while the tree's and sand along with other things use high resolution textures.
