[Crymod] No 1.3 Patch - Page 6

post #51 of 113
@QuickS

you did notice that most of the textures in COD4 are low res right? the player models have great textures but the map textures do not even compare to crysis textures. also the lighting and physics in crysis are far superior. the game may be coded poorly and COD4 is an awesome game but your argument that COD4 looks better is just....well.......insane.

Thats not true at all, the textures in COD4 are evenly balanced and I will post some pics to prove my point. Also, IMHO the lighting is much better in COD4, did you ever see the muzzle flashes and the nice warm glow that everything has in COD4? I agree though this whole thing about which games look better as it is completely opinionated. Just because I honestly feel as though Crysis doesn't look impressive to me at all even when its completely maxed out. I feel as though I like the way TF2 and COD4 look much better than Crysis.......but that is just my opinion.

EDIT: Heres the COD4 pictures that I took a while ago, the first 4 pictures on this page.

If thats your opinion than so be it. IMHO The AI in Crysis is pretty terrible compared to the newer fps's out there. I would have to say that the AI in Crysis is only a tad bit better than the AI in Farcry. I also wish that I still had Crysis on my computer because from what I remember Crysis mixes low resolution and high resolutions textures. IE, the rocks and tires use extremely low resolution textures a long with a lot of other things while the tree's and sand along with other things use high resolution textures.
I loved Crysis, but it's FAR from perfect....which is why I'm pissed that they've stopped patching a clearly needing game....however I disagree that it's poorly coded.
I'm not sure about the pixel density of the textures in different objects, but I know that the engine can employ parallax occlusion mapping, which greatly heightens the geometric detail in textures such as pebble-laden walkways, etc.

BTW cutting up trees really isn't graphically intensive at all as it uses the CPU and it has been shown that Crysis wont even use 100% of the CPU so that would prove my point even more as to why it is so unoptimized. BTW when you chop up the tree's it isn't even dynamic so I don't see a big deal with that at all. I don't see your point with the map sizes as there are some huge maps in TF2, Bioshock, and COD4 that are even bigger than some of the maps in Crysis.

The AI is also a joke in Crysis so I don't see your point there either :/. You can pick up objects in HL2 which is like a 4 year old game so picking up chickens isn't anything major. Those buildings that you destroy aren't really destroyed either. Each building has a top made out of metal sheets that might get blown away and the wood just disappears when you break it. Nothing revolutionary at all and not a good reason to be getting terrible fps on all systems. BTW if Farcry doesn't look that bad on your computer than lets see some screen shots because as far as I'm concerned it looks that bad maxed out on my computer too.

You also still haven't answered any of my questions....If anything you proved my point even more. Just because when HL2 was released it was the first game to offer fully dynamic physics where you could move all of the objects and what not and there was rag dolls. Yet, it could run maxed out on any decent system at that time without any fps problems.
You're deluded. Comparing Crysis to those other games is comparing oranges to apples. Crysis has far more beautifully realistic graphics and environments than either of those games--especially HL2. The fact that you're comparing Crysis to a game using an engine that's nearly 5 years old shows how uninformed you are. Boohoo, Crysis doesn't run on your computer. Go cry to someone else.

Unfortunately, you're opinion doesn't count for jack crap when we're talking about reality, not people's opinions.

Actually you would find that a lot of people on here agree with me regarding this topic. Graphics after all, are opinionated.
