I'm sorry but high school CS only teaches you the basics of optimization. It wont teach you full out optimization that you would come upon with when making a full game. Also, optimization goes beyond coding, things like 3drendering, 3d models, texture balance, and configurations all come into play too. Coding optimization is only a small part of the bigger picture.

The only other way to find out if it is unoptimized would be for a game programmer to debug the code and everything in that area.
How many games do you know do this? Also, provide proof.

Erm...COD4 renders more??

Have you put r_displayinfo 1 into the console of Crysis? You will notice that it is rendering 12 million triangles pretty much all the time.
Oh and that view distance.. Its infinite..

So when COD4 renders fire, collapsing buildings, snapping trees, moving bushes and leaves, god rays, ToD, and countless other stuff. Then say it renders more

He was saying the reason COD 4 looks better is NOT because it renders more.
He said it looks better because he can max it at good frame rates.

You can't argue with this... http://www.hardwired.hu/img/wg/2/743/Crysis_44.jpg
Come on, COD4 wins in online, and is a really great game, but seriously, don't try and prove the graphics are better than this.

that looks like a screenshot from the demo movie. even on very high it doesnt look like that for me. if it did it would seriously cripple any mainstream hardware within the next year
