Unanswered DS3L Overclocking Problem

Thread Starter
Hello.
I have posted this already in the DS3L thread, but I found no solution to my problem so I figured that I would post in the Intel Mobo forum.

Whenever I overclock my DS3L and Q6600 to whatever speed, I noticed that whenever the temps hit 62C, the multiplier throttles down to 6 when running Prime 95. The temps are only at 62C which should still be safe, but it throttles reguardless. I have C1E, E1ST, and TM2 disabled in the BIOS but this still happens.

This is a strange problem and it seems rare to me. I have gone through most of the BIOS options without being able to figure out which options/settings configurations are causing this.

Does anyone know why this would be happening?

C1E and E1ST are both power saving options that will clock down your CPU/volts when you're idle... TM2 is what limits your OC when hitting a certain temperature... if this is already disabled and your CPU is still clocking down, your board seems to be having an issue... update your BIOS and see if that helps...

Alternatively, you could enable TM2 then go into the PC Health Status tab and set your CPU Warning Temperature to 70C. The TM2 will kick in according to the CPU Warning Temperature settings

I have already flashed my BIOS from F8b to F8f and that didn't help. It might be because of the BIOS being betas.

I already have tried what your suggesting by accessing the PC Health Status tab, but I'll try it again and all possible combinations anyway.

Thanks for replying!

Did you go to default settings before you flashed the bios? And does it matter what clock it's doing it at? Say you use a lot of voltage but you're only running 2.4GHz, does it still throttle at 62c?

I did flash the BIOS after resetting CMOS, so yes it was at default when I flashed it. It doesn't matter what clocks it's at, it's all about the temps being at 62C. My previous ASUS cooler had the throttling effect in the same situation, but with 67C.

Let me go dig up a thread that I posted about it.

--Edit--
Here, http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...rclocking.html
It has a good amount of information about it and what others had to say. It's still not solved yet, but I want to overclock my chip further as I know I can push my chip a bit more.

Go back to the straight f8 bios or the non beta bios, Ive had troubles on 4 different gigabyte boards using beta bioses, it killed 2 of them.. Ive built over 10 machines (3 quads) with that mobo and have yet to see one do as you have explained. Ive been using the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 to cool the ones people want to overclock. ALLEN

Good idea. I have been on the beta BIOS since I started reaching those temperatures. I'll go back to F7.

I'm not sure but is Intel Speedstep C1E or the other one? The problem is a bit strange, I haven't heard of it before.

Yes, it's rare to my knowledge. To me, it seems like a sensor or motherboard malfunction. Maybe it's the CPU chip if they have those safety features built in. I totally did not get what you were trying to say in your question.

Bad news, I just flashed to F7, a non beta BIOS, and the problem still persists.

The link in one of my previous posts has all the information/discussion on this problem the last time I made a thread about it. So far I've had no luck in fixing this situation.

It would really help if Gigabyte Tech Support gave me a straight answer instead of trying to direct me to underclock my CPU from where it's at.

--Edit--
I was wondering if I should RMA my DS3L and get a different one to see if it would be the cause of the problem. The only problem is that ClubIT, where I got it from, went out of business and I'm not so sure if Gigabyte will RMA it. My board right now has a backplate glued to it.
