well, everyone already answered your question but you might find this helpful. i have vista 64 ultimate.

the only thing i don't like about vista is UAC, which i have disabled. also, not a lot of good antivirus is out for 64 bit yet. yes norton, kaspersky, AVG, f-secure, etc are 64, but they are memory hogs and uses a lot of cpu juice. also, a lot of viruses right now are aimed to disable these antivirus programs as first priority. f-secure is pretty light weight but they don't update their virus database enough. i use NOD32 on xp 32 and i love it. its extremely lightweight and it updates its virus database 2x a week or so. i believe there is a 64bit out for NOD32 but i only heard it as a rumur.

althought vista ultimate takes like 1gb of memory, vista is willing to sacrifice memory to allow other applications to run better. 64 bit applications will run about 30% faster than 32bit depending on how well the application supports 64bit.

vista drivers arent perfected yet but its has almost identical performance as xp. you probably only see a 100 mark difference between drivers on 3Dmark06. when im using vista, i find that sometimes i get a BSOD while gaming once a week or twice a week. on the other hand, i hanve't gotten a BSOD in xp for 2 years.

Iolo was voted the best Virus Protection software by PC gamer magazine a while back

I use it and i love it, $50 for 3 computers, then $30 a year to renew the license for all 3 computers - waaay cheaper than norton etc, it doesnt hog resources and its very efficient n great to use

I am not a salesman =P Its just honestly the best Virus Protection ive come across, i use it on my laptop, main computer, and the office computer

By default, Vista boots only from one core. To use more cores already at boot time, you have to change a manual setting as follows.

1. Click on: [Start]
2. Click on: Run...
3. Type in: msconfig
4. Click on: [OK]
5. Click on the tab: Boot
6. Adjust the number of cores to the number your processor actually has.
7. Click on: [OK]
