Alright im building a rig for my buddy, and im having a hard time judging what he needs for a psu. The Build is like so:

mobo-EVGA nForce 780i SLI Motherboard
cpu-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor 2.66GHz OEM
ram-OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 2x2gig PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory
cpu cooling- ZEROtherm / Butterfly BTF90 / Socket 775/754/939/AM2 / Copper Base / Heatpipes
6x90mm case fans
graphics 2xevga 9600gt-512ddr3 possibly 3 in future
wd 300gig/wd250gig 7200 rpm hard drives
dvd/cd burner 16x/52x

alright so what kind of wattage are we gonna need to make sure he has ample power for this rig for now into the future.

This 650W should be enough

reviews @ newegg
Maybe the 750w version, but I really think 650 should be plenty

side note - you can't tri-sli 9600gt's. kinda curious why you picked 90mm fans too

As suggested a corsair 650w would be fine . Why the butterfly cooler, there are much better coolers out there (ocz vendetta 2 or tuniq tower)

hmm 650 seems underpowered for running 3 vid cards, and chances are ill overclock him into the future too, so i dont want to leave him with no power to spare

850W will have you covered but because you have so many graphics cards make sure the PSU has enough cables for your cards!

If you are not sure you can buy a case that supports 2 PSUs (or mod one yourself ) and buy another one later. Although the first idea is probably more reliable.

Hope I helped.

going to cast my vote on the 750w corsair it will leave u power to spare with your planned possible upgrades but is cheap and has a good reputation and isnt exuberant as far as wattage goes. good luck with the build ^_^

i know now that the 9600 isnt supported by tri sli, but that will be an upgrade int he future, im sure nvidia/evga will release drivers for the cards/mobo/os that will allow tri sli in the future, but for now were going with one to keep the cost in range for him, then in the future we will add another, the option for the 3rd really isnt until he finds himself having a hard time playing new games that come out, but i figure with 2 9600's he will be good for at least 2 years, depending on how much the new games comming out push systems.
