Motherboard limit my overclocking?

Thread Starter
*correction for title; limit should be limiting... didn't want to sound like a cave man.

I have an abit ip35-e and it supports up to 800 mhz of ddr2 and i have 2 sticks of corsair pc6400 ddr2 ram. The lowest Timings I can get with the cpu:ram is 1:1.

So basically, I overclocked my e6750 to 3.2 ghz which would leave my ram to run at 800 mhz. But at this point i can't overclock anymore and i think it is because my motherboard is holding me back. My cpu surprising runs cool idle (12-18C) and load (41C max) so i don't think the cpu is holding me back. The problem could be the ram but I'm not sure.

Here are my questions however
1)is there anything i can do to increase the limit of my motherboard and is the motherboard the thing that is probably holding me back?

2)Can i unbound the cpu and the ram or reduce the ratio even further so i can overclock my cpu past 3.2 ghz.

Thanks for any help.

Soo you're aiming for 3.2GHz and have the ram divider @ 1:1 to equal 800MHz... what sort of voltages are you running? I'm guessing the temperatures you posted are inaccurate as 12C = 53F and unless you live in Denmark or something, that can't be achieved with stock cooling... Use the latest version of coretemp or HWmonitor

Have you bothered stress testing any of the settings before 3.2GHz?

Hi hs101,
me too having the same prob, just stuck at 3.2 and can't go past it (though my board is G33 and don't have NB volt settings )!!!

Didn't posted a thread cause I will be having exams soon though I will keep ma eye on this thread.

I know my idle temps seem impossible but that is what "abit eq" which is the officail software from my motherboard is telling me, to add my cpu fan is running at a normal 50%. Is there any way i can take a screen shot of this to prove it to you without using a digital camera?

About the voltages, everything is at stock. Ex:memory is at 1.8v.

If you run FSB 450 - 475 and put your memory volt to 2,10 - 2,20, maybe you can do 900 to 950 with them, all you have to do is try.

Wouldn't my motherboard limit me since it supports up to 800 mhz or no? Nonetheless, i tried setting my fsb to 415 which overclocked my ram to 830 with a voltage of 1.85. after 30 minutes how ever i see a blue screen with words which disappear quickly and then following a reboot to my computer.

Agreed. You can overclock most RAM, even VALURAM. Make sure you keep the voltage within spec or it'll die fast. Also you may want to consider higher frequency RAM if you are sure that the divider is the problem.

How far were you able to overclock you're ram and what voltage did you use for it?

Mine will happily overclock to ddr 1066 at 2.1v. However, I run 960mhz 24/7 at 2.0v. I like my RAM . But my RAM isn't the same as yours, so you may not be able to get the same results.

I tried to run my fsb to 450 in order to achieve a 3.6 ghz clock using 1.95v on the ram and 1.37 on the cpu. when i saved the settings the computer turned on without making the beep sound it usually makes when my overclock is not successful, but before it can reach the windows logo the computer reboots. Is there anything I can do to make these clocks work (ie: Change the voltage to something else) or does this simply mean I cannot reach a 3.6 ghz clock?
