There real question now since the 780i's are too hot is is it worth upgrading to a 790i board and getting DDR3 or is that not worth it yet?

if I had it over to do again id get a DFI x48 or a Rampage.Im guessing you want DDR2 for cheap ram.

Well this is what I might have to do just get a watercooling system to go with the 780i.. do you guys thing XFX or eVGA 780i is better? I am going to go exchange my board for the 780i see how my temps are with air cooling, then switch to water cooling after I save up some more money.

I do not know much about water cooling could one of you show me a good water cooling kit that I could use?

Btw thank you for helping me rep for both of you.

I think with the latest bios the video corruption bug has been fixed (dont quote me). I personally didnt have any problems with my 780i other then the northbridge running hot which im sure can be corrected if you plan on water-cooling. As for water-cooling kits id recommend you ask in the water-cooling forum to make sure but i am currently looking at getting this and eventually modifying it to my needs. From what i understand stay away from any pre-made kits except for Petra's and Swifttech.

Oh and on the 790i and DDR3 i think i personally would wait for the new socket to come out before getting a DDR3 board due to cost/performance

Well what do you mean the new socket? Wouldn't the 790i last me and be able to support all of the technology for atleast the next year?

the thermalright hr-05 SLI fits the SB! i have it running on my board

as for the NB the only option is water cooling as you stated.

i would think so. the new intel chips are going to need a new socket but it should last a year. thats what my plan was when building my rig anyway lol. only thing ill be upgrading is the gcards

edit: woops i thought you were talking 780i. i see no need to go ddr3 just yet and as i stated above the new intel chips are going to need a new socket.

Okay well I am thinking of exchanging my mobo and going with the eVGA 790i.. but do you guys think I should get 2Gb or DDR3 or 4Gb? The highest latency they have at the store is 8500 thats why i was thinking to get 2Gb then maybe upgrade in the future to something better to replace it.

i would suggest more than 2 gigs if you are going ddr2 or ddr3 but keep in mind that 32-bit OS only recognize 3.5 gigs.

If you go the 790i route, talk to some of the owners like Robilar. I know they had some compatibility issues with the 65nm quads (like the Q6600 and the Q6700) as well as ram. I know the eVGA boards do not like the OCZ ram.

Just keep in mind that your not really gonna see a major benefit with DDR3 till the new proc's come out with an on-die memory controller. I would think you'd be better off waiting for the new processor's that better utilize DDR3 come out.

yeah but i might as well trade it in and when the new processors come out and i put it in this board it will really be nice.
