Questions about the eVGa or XFX 780i - Page 3

like i said earlier i believe the chips with the on-die memory controller are going to need a new socket so the 790i is really a waste becuase the new chips will not fit in it.

well the good thing about eVGA is I have the step up program on this motherboard so if eVGA makes any better motherboard within the next 90 days then I'm going to get it.

Also I got a $50 2 year warranty with the place that I bought it at which covers overclocking, electrical surgers, etc, etc, everything but physical damage. So pretty much the way the warranty works is if I fry my motherboard to the point that it does not work anymore(within the next two years), then they will give me a brand new motherboard of the same value which is probably going to be the top of the line one. Eventually this mobo will go down in price and the new ones will come in and cost in the range of $365.99 and I can get those.

Hmm... Two years from now maybe like a 890i or 990i? lol

Do you got a pic of it.I have a evercool fan coming for it and a Viper john kit.Im wondering how tight it is under the card. How close it will come to the barb's on a water cooled card.Sice im running one card.I have to run in the first slot.Covering the south bridge.

as for the NB the only option is water cooling as you stated.

i would think so. the new intel chips are going to need a new socket but it should last a year. thats what my plan was when building my rig anyway lol. only thing ill be upgrading is the gcards

edit: woops i thought you were talking 780i. i see no need to go ddr3 just yet and as i stated above the new intel chips are going to need a new socket.

hey i got the board but i cannot get it to run and I am pretty sure it is a memory problem. The board is posting Fine I have to run a memtest or something, but yeah its really bothering me that I can't get it working. Did you have any stability issues when you first bought it?

There are a lot of differnt version's of 780I for EVGA.I got the silver stock cooler production 03.I havent had any memory issue's.Ive set my memory to 2.1 volt's and 5,5,5,15.The default for the computer was lower. It also came with Bios 03.Im up to bios 05.

My only real problem is the heat that comes from the stock cooler.I also did the volt mod to fix vcore.I also replaced the TIM on the board cooler with AS5.The heat is still really bad.

If the HR05 will fit on the south bridge with a card in the 1st slot.Id really like to get one.Seen a post in the EVGA forum saying it didnt fit perfectly.
