Q9450 OC nightmare? - Page 11

what are you guys getting for core temps on your 9450's? im just curious im o.cd to 3.6 and at idol average like 51c on all 4 cores +-2 and get like 65 at load +-2. I've reseated my hsf like 5 times and its always the same i've even rotated it so the fans face diffrent directions and lapped it (not the cpu just the hsf).

As stated somewhere in this very long thread by now, my idle temps are about 30°C at stock speed, and about 34°C @3680 MHz (460 FSB). Under heavy load (like benchmarks are stability tests), the temperature raises to 42°C maximum (haven't exceeded just yet). Room temperature is about 25°C and my water temps normally don't exceed 30°C. Looks like your cooling isn't exactly doing a great job ... but then again, ours are watercooled ... though I'm convinced this should be achievable with a good air cooling as well

Me? I ran a 24h test with Everest Stress Test without any issues ... should try prime maybe (though basically it does the same) but since I have a licensed Everest ...

it seems to be a very common "issue" with the q9450/x3350 cpu's

At a 24/7 clock of 3.805 GHz, 476x8, under an OK watercooling setup I idle at 29C and load temps after 24hours@100% are 52/54/52/54 across the cores. With a better CPU waterblock I expect load temps to drop 5-10c.

My new highest clock is at 3.96@1.4v is 32C idle and 57C load.

lol...the thread lives....

The first thing you can do is simply just start raising the FSB in the bios 10MHz at a time, when it stops booting into windows raise vCore/MCH a notch and keep going - you may need the latest flash on your bios too. You can also start your own thread because I think Bart is ready for this one to die out haha.

Also, there are a handful of guides on here that I'm sure the next person will post for me that are all very good basic/beginners "How to's" on overclocking.

Lol 10 MHz at the time! Well, if you have a decent board (hum - hum) you should be able to get 400FSB (3.2 GHz) out of it just by changing the FSB while leaving everything on auto. But than again, it's an Asus, right

And no, this thread won't be dying any time soon ... I guess my system probably dies before this thread will

At the moment, I'm quite busy but I will try the 500 FSB!

I hear ya - I've realized that up to 498 FSB I'm good but at 499 my power supply is struggling, I'm guessing it can't keep the constant current needed - so I'm shopping - probably a 1000W Quattro in an antec 1200 case would work. Who knows!
