Purchased a "XFX 8600GT XXX edition" - Page 3

That card is actually a pretty good one. Not anything remarkable and if you OC it a bit you can prob play them games at good settings
post #22 of 36
You might not max Cod4... For 2 reasons, The memory on the card isn't that great and the core speed isn't impressive.. on the E2160, even with a OC to 3.0ghz will still have hiccups due to it's very little L2 Cashe... just my 2 cents..

Edit: Looking at similar setups with that card and CPU, Cod4 maxed does about 50-60 FPS so enjoy your game

Its also worth knowing what resolution you will be running COD4 on.

The higher the res, the more memory you will need. For example, with 256MB I wouldn't expect it to perform too well over 1280x1024.

well i have the evga 8600gts, it only has 256 of ddr3 ram onboard, but it is remarkably fast, i play cod4 on 1152x864 with all lighting and stuff maxed out and i get 80 average 60 low 110 max fps while playing even with my old 7600gts i was able to play crysis on medium and get 30fps. Honestly ever since i switched to evga versions of nvida cards ive been wowed.

i see you use a Pentium D 3ghz.

would it make a lot difference if i use Intel E2160 Duo2 @ ~2.8 or 3Ghz ?

and the Graphics card is XXX edition.. pretty high clocks

I have a 8600gt on my downstairs computer (with a amd 2x 4200+ (2.2ghz)) OD'd at 621/777/1366, to get playable framerates in COD4 I have to turn almost all of the fancy things. textures dont really effect your fps at all so you can run those at extra. This is at 1280x1024. It still looks very good, even with all the eye candy off, and it plays very well (70+FPS) with everything off, you just wont be able to max out cod4.

It seems fitting for a budget system like that. It'll run just fine.
