Q6600, more volts=more mhz, with a limit, but you need lots of cooling power to OC the quad

E8400 is cheaper to overclock
Hear, hear!! As I understand it, the Q6600 is an EasyBake oven in the case, while the new 45nm E8400 runs up in the 3.5-3.6ghz range on stock vcore (1.1v!!). I know what I'd rather be cooling

in games no ifs about it, the e8400 kicks but! it even has more fps then my qx9650 at the highest 24/7 speeds. Now if more games used 4 cores then of course get a quad but till then the e8400 hands down.

I even have some 3dmark06 links if you need them.

Running an E8400 at stock will provide you with enough speed for games.

They can also reach 4.0Ghz if need be for the future.

E8400 hands down.

ah damnit its like a 50-50 here. Ill name a few more things you can keep in mind.

1. Im not going to be upgrading my processor for at least 2 years, maybe more.
2. I have no cooling, just all stock, but will be pushing it to the limit.

Also what chews more power? E8400 or Q6600

Yes its a cheap motherboard, i don't have the best budget. Its cheap ram to, but i don't intend on overclocking the ram.

Now i have 2 questions.

1. I hear many people overclocking a Q6600 to 3.0ghz (especially with G0 stepping) with stock heatsink etc. Im wondering if id be able to do this?

2. Im deciding between Q6600 and E8400. Im a gamer, i prefer lots of fps, and from what i hear the E8400 would give more fps, except.. if it only gives a little more, id rather go with the Q6600 as im sure that has far better other benifits such as multitasking, and at least in 2 years when theres 3-4 core games id still be happy.

How much better is that E8400.. i really like this Q6600 because its quad and im sure it has far more benifits than the E8400 besides fps.

Please answer my questions thank you.

Also i dont have any more money, the E8400 is $4 more than the Q6600 so thats not a big deal, but i cant change the other 2 peices.
the q6600 is very easy to get up! When I got the stock cooler, I got it up to 3.4ghz stable!

Enjoy

I refer you to my earlier post re: the 1.1v stock volts of the E8400. There is no cooler chip to run or OC that will run such excellent fps for you. It'll outperform the Q6600 in games for some time to come, remember NO games are utilizing four cores yet. And if you're running stock cooling the Q6600 is certainly not a choice I would make.

you should be ok with that power supply.. an 8800GT needs 28A minimum combined on the 12V rails, yours has 30A combined so it should just be enough

8800GT should have 450w @ 26amps
That psu does not have 30 amps. You do not just add the 12v together.

OP
Here is your psu:
http://www.xionusa.com/Product-powersupply_450W_ATX.asp

No idea from this how many amps on the 12v
