Q6600 can't pass 3ghz....(and some more questions..) thx !!

system DOES boot up at 3.3ghz, however it bluescreens as soon as I started Prime95.

with 3.2ghz it bluescreens at about 3-4 minutes after Prime95 started..

and it won't even boot up at all at 3.5ghz.

1: How high should I push the vcore to at the ram and the cpu in terms of "safe overclocking" ??

2: FBSRAM ratio is at 2:3, should I lower the memory speed if I decide to stay at 3.0ghz ?

3: CPU temp is at 65c when full load at 3.0ghz, so I guess my fan is good enough ?(while some others said it's a piece of crap)

4: OCZ reapers are supposed to be "performance ram" arent they ?

put ram on 1:1 for now, whats vcore at?
im guessing your on stock cooling

What is your vcore set at now? If it is bumped up, are you checking its true value with CPUID or CPU-Z?

Have you disabled speedstep, etc.?

I believe you are safe to go as high as 1.5-1.55v. My own E6600 is running 1.48 volts right now at a 3.448v OC. Seems to me you Q6600 should do better for you than it is, but I'm no expert with that chip (or any other).

I have no idea what vcore is it at. coz it's being "optimized" by the bios it self so i guess it's somewhat "safe" vcore.

Sure it is safe, but it may not be effective at so high a CPU setting.

What kind of cooling are you using on the processor?

put vcore on 1.4v, vdroop will probably put you at 1.35v but should be good for 3 ghz, see if it lasts longer before bsod in prime, if not bump it up again

That's an OK cooler. Are you monitoring your core temps?

Have you downloaded Core Temp, or CPUID to do so? If not you might wanna do so now, as you may not want to start OC'g your vcore until you can follow the temps that will bring.

Also, have you turned off your Speedstep yet? There are some thermal controls in your BIOS that are designed to protect your cores from excessive volts=heat. These will need too be disabled to achieve your best speeds. If you already know this, no disrespect intended

excuse the double post, but in regard to your original question about the DRAM volts; leave them alone for now. You really shouldn't be OC'g anything but the CPU until it is stable. 'Auto' setting of ram volts is fine for now.

Hey, i have the bigger brother of your board. I also got a Gigabyte P35 board. I am at 3.4Ghz completely stable. Due to the fact that I am using a TRUE 120 extreme, I can raise VCore and still have good temps, but you should be able to easily get about 3.0,3.2,3.3Ghz. I'll give you some ideas of what I set to reach certain steps. Remember, every mobo and processor is different, so results will vary.

First, disable all of the power saving options.
Your Advanced BIOS features should look like this:
CPU Hyper Threading: Enabled
Limit CPUID Max. to 3: Disabled
No-Execute Memory Protect: Enabled
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E): Disabled
CPU Thermal Monitor 2 (TM2): Disabled
CPU EIST Function: Disabled
Virtualization Technology: Enabled
Full Screen LOGO Show: Up too you
Init Display First: PEG

That will turn off all of your power saving features.

Next, from the main menu of your BIOS, hit control+F1 to enable advanced MIT Features.

First, set your PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) to 100.

Im guessing that you already know how to set your FSB and all that so I am not going to go into that. On the memory side, leave it DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD): Auto so the BIOS chooses the timings, only thing you should do is down under voltage control, raise DDR2 Overvoltage Control to whatever your memory is warrantied for. My Crucial Ballistix memory is good to 2.2V, and since 1.8V is the stock voltage, I added +.40 to my DDR2 Control to get it there. You have The tracer that should be the same check the crucial site to find out. Now, go to your System Memory Multiplier (SPD). What I found out is if you use the + and - keys, more options become available there. Scroll through all of the available options once you have set your FSB frequency to get it as close to 800 as possible to get 1:1 ratio.

Ok, now to the voltages. It's a hit and miss game down there so you will have to just mess around but here is what I was set at for different speeds:

2.8Ghz:
System Voltage Control: Manual
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.40
PCI-E OverVoltage Control: Normal
FSB OverVoltage Control: Normal
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control: Normal
CPU Voltage Control (which is your VCore): 1.23750

3.0Ghz:
System Voltage Control: Manual
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.40
PCI-E OverVoltage Control: Normal
FSB OverVoltage Control: Normal
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control: Normal
CPU Voltage Control (which is your VCore): 1.23750

3.2Ghz:
System Voltage Control: Manual
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.40
PCI-E OverVoltage Control: Normal
FSB OverVoltage Control: Normal
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control: Normal
CPU Voltage Control (which is your VCore): 1.32500

3.4Ghz:
System Voltage Control: Manual
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.40
PCI-E OverVoltage Control: Normal
FSB OverVoltage Control: .15
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control: Normal
CPU Voltage Control (which is your VCore): 1.40000

You can try that, hope it helps
