Where is this sort of data kept in XP?

I cant really explain it so I will use an example, probably not the best one.

Say a demo blackjack software that plays blackjack had 100 trial spins, after the 100 trials it displays a message saying to buy the full version or something.

Im guessing its programmed to stop and thats it, but do these things work on logs and just store it somewhere on the OS, or is it code and cant be found and changed.

This is just an example, I just need to know this for a project im doing, and cant remember of the top of my head.

it is more than likely stored somewhere within the OS registry, because if it was a file local to the program, you could just delete those and reinstall.

uninstall it, then go to "Run" then type "regedit" and search (CTRL+F)
for any registries related to the game and delete them

Be CAREFUL not to delete any other registries

it saves it permanently in CPU cache? i've had a trial expire on a program and never again used it even with reinstalling windows and formatting the hard drive, the computer still knew... That's my theory....

Limited trials are always tracked and controlled using registery values. You won't find them in the registery unless A) you're a windows pro and increcibely patient B) you can google it and find them from that windows Pro that was patient.

FYI: changing, modifying, removing a limited trial is hacking.

Get a good registry monitoring tool, such as RegMon which will show you what it's accessing.

Close out of everything else. Launch RegMon and let it run, launch the application and any registry keys it opens or queries will show in RegMon. Simply find the key(s) and what you do with them is another issue.
