Ok before I lapped both cpu and cooler my idle temps were 35/28/31/35 and under load they were 65/59/59/65 testing @3.2 with an ambient temp of 64*F and 18*C. Now my ambient temp has gone up to 72*F and 22*C and I'm idle at 36/28/30/36 , and under load my temps go to 67/57/57/67 @3.2. Is this normal because of the temperature change and also is the 10* difference normal ? TIA

I sorry I did not mean to come across as squirel bashing you or anything...I know lapping works...I do understand the physics behind it...just I don't need to lap I've got my cpu on ice...lol!

Did not mean to send you into aggreived status or anything accept my apologies..still I don't think it's practical enough to justify the time; that's my oppinion and this is an oppinion forum.

And i dont want to lap. Overclocking is enough for me

Just not a fan of lapping at all.
I've been using Intel products since the days of 486 DX2 66 Mhz, and out of the around 15 or so different CPU's I have.. I have had to RMA exactly 0 of them due to a defect, but the really concave Core2 IHS's i suppose qualify, but it's nothing you can't correct yourself with a couple sheets of sandpaper.

I had the exact same problem as you, a 20 deg difference in cores under load, when i bought my Q6700 a few weeks ago. The only thing that remedied tis problem was lapping my cpu IHS. You can see the results here.

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...ml#post3876538

A note on lapping: Anything past 800 grit doesn't increase your thermal transfer. A mirror finish will get you the exact same temperatures as a surface that is 800 grit as once you are around that grit the IHS should be sufficiently flat.

Hey,don't take it so hard it's good to have a difference of opinion so in short apology accepted. I was trying to avoid having to get a TT to get better temps hence the lapping, the things guys do here is sometimes astounding and without them sharing their knowledge,I would have been out $45 + dollars instead of $10 for sandpaper.
