1066 RAM on ASUS P5N-D

Thread Starter
Was just wondering if anyone has been able to run 1066 on a Asus P5N-D? The specs say 800 is the highest it supports.

Thanks

RAM speeds are not capped.

DDR2-800 might be the highest it supports automatically.

But that means a whole lotta nothing.

When you overclock, you increase FSB, which in turns increases the RAM speed.

How much depends on what ratio is used.

So can you run DDR2-1066 on that mobo?

Absolutely.

You just need to set it up manually.

Basically, if you want to run stock, then getting DDR2-1066 wouldn't be a wise idea.

If you don't mind messing with settings in the bios, then you can get a lot farther than DDR2-1066 speeds with the right RAM.

Ok so I can run 1066 on this motherboard. I just have to set it up manually whether or not I buy stock 1066 or overclock 800 to 1066 if I understand this correctly.

Would I really see a performance increase if I did 1066 since my FSB right now is 1066 or would it not really be worth it??

Thanks for the reply

Your FSB is 266 MHz quad pumped.
If you had DDR2-1066, that's running 533 MHz.

Will you see a benefit from running 533 MHz RAM over 400 MHz RAM?

Not really, just in benchmarks.

You really need to be overclocking CPU & RAM for buying DDR2-1066 to make sense.

Otherwise you're going to end up with either your RAM running underclocked, or you'll have to learn how to OC to get your DDR2-1066 speed.

Is it better to have your FSB to same speed as your RAM?? For some reason I always thought that. If I overclock to 3.2 400x8 would that be any different than 355x9??

Thanks again for your help
