Nearly every component in any given system has somethign wrong with it somewhere. Nothing is flawless and there is a decent bit of redundancy built in.

Frankly I would be amazed if there were not a few dead SRAM cells in the L2 cache of your 5200+, unusable sectors on your hard drives, multitudes of faulty DRAM cells in each and every IC on your system memory, or a handfull of broken solder joints on the BGA connecting your chipset to your motherboard.

There is nothing "defective" as far as intended use is concerned, about an X3, or an E2xxx.
Thats how they are marketed, reduced capacity chips. Its not my point of view, from mine i was considering a Phenom X3 even, its from the person your building for's point of view. They don't realize that even a PS3 has an extra SPU in case another is busted.
