Looking for Headphones ~$50 - Page 2

I just can't bring myself to recommending "gaming headsets". They are just so single purposed, kinda like Skullcrushers. Their only use would be gaming, and they'll suck at everything else. Even the HD555 and A700 would do positional audio just as well if not better, not to mention they are good for music as well.

I think I could actually gather some extra money to get the HD555. I could use a good set of headphones for music as well. Thanks for all the help

Grados aren't great for gaming, but they do the job fairly well, considering. They don't isolate the sound well enough to keep you immersed, but they have a decent sound stage, and thus decent directional sound. The bass isn't that great either, but good enough for the most part. I don't shout into the mic as much, either, as I do with my A900s. All in all, if you are thinking of getting them, considering you're a metal head, go for it. But for gaming performance, and just for gaming, there are much better cans out there.

yea nothing beats a 325i at metal. but i was just asking because maybe the OP would concider a set of 60 or 80s which would be one of the best bangs for the buck. and their great tinker cans too.

You really need to get into the higher end Grados before you notice any soundstage at all. The SR60/80 are completely in your face. So positional audio is marred by the small soundstage.

This is narrow-minded. You must understand that Grado aims for a completely different type of bass outside the standard conventions of other headphones. Rather than providing huge, bloated quantities of bass Grado aims for clean, accurate lows.

This is what people continue to fail to understand about bass. Just because it rattles your head with sheer impact does not mean it is accurate, and surely does not make it superior. Of the headphones I have heard to date, the only non-Grado headphone that had truly phenomenal bass in both quantity and accuracy was the JVC DX1000. Otherwise, I prefer Grado's presentation of bass to every other brand I've listened to.

On topic, AKG K81DJ's are pretty sweet budget headphones in the $60-70 range .

Word, Grado's bass is amazingly tight and controlled, not sluggish at all, it is all about speed. Plus if you wanted more impact and resonance there's always Aura's tape mod.
