amd64 x2 vs amd64 Phenom quad

Thread Starter
Got age of Conan last night loaded it up and figured out I really need an upgrade...
ok heres the question.. what would be better/faster/more stable for gaming
an amd64x2 with high clock speed or the 4 core phenom with lower clock speed.

Also been hearing that intel quads blow amds phenoms out of the water.. is this true? and if so would it really be worth my saving up a little to get an intel?

Games won't utilize the four cores unless Age of Conan does. So the higher clocked processor would be better. And I believe that the Q6600 is cheaper than its phenom counterpart so you wouldnt really need to save up any extra.

X2

this is true, intel's core 2 duo also blows x2 out of the water. it is more than worth it to save up for either a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad.

GO INTEL!!!!

Stock for Stock, intel = amd basically, but then you can push that intel to OC like 1.2ghz above stock while the amd will cough you up a lung at 800mhz in MOST cases, if you can even get 800mhz (I only got 400). This goes for just about all amd and intel chips.

No matter which setup you go with though, if its just for gaming, go with a dual core. Most games dont use smp yet (multithreading) and cannot take advantage of dualcore yet, let alone quad. If you are gonna be gaming, folding, burning a cd, and downloading your favourite porn collection, then get a quad. But unless you are serious about multitasking, quads (amd and intel both) are a waste of $ and performance!

Intels do OC better, but clock for clock I would go with the Phenom 9850 and I did.
