Just installed 8800gt.. lost 50% ram

Thread Starter
Hi, i just installed my 8800GT. when it booted up i noticed it was much slower.. looked at my ram and it was only 512mb, when i have 2x 512mb ram cards, i dont think i knocked any ram out of its slot..

Im thinking its my power supply, its a crappy thing and im suprised i could run this card, is it possible that a power supply can stop 1 ram stick from working if its power load is ultra full?

Maybe the RAM simply isn't functioning?

Hmm, I would just make sure they are pushed in all the way again. If not try switching to the other 2 slots on your mobo.

Assuming your RAM is in all the way, I am willing to bet you are on a 32-bit OS. It can only write to so much RAM at a time, and your GPU RAM takes away from that, so your limit now is essentially 3.5GB - 1GB or 2.5GB of RAM.

Read what he is saying, it isn't enough to be a problem.

Try one stick at a time, and see if it detects each as the correct size.. If it does. I blame 32-bit windows, even if he doesn't have over 2GB of ram.

Hi Xent, are you able to fill out your system specs via your User Control Panel?

This will help us determine what the problem may be.

How much RAM does your motherboard/BIOS report on boot-up?

Have you updated your BIOS?

What you said would make sense if he had 4gb. But he only has 1 if you read his first post. Which makes it no help to him.

It's ironic that my response to your post is precisely what you quoted. If he removes the card and the RAM total returns to normal, then I'd put money on what I said being part of the problem. And even if it isn't part of the problem, my post is more useful than yours.
