Tough choice......... Please help this NooBie

Thread Starter
I am having a tough choice in choosing my CPU. I am building from scrape and I mean scrape. I know nothing about overclocking but I am willing to give it a shot. So can some people help me on these questions.

1) I want to know what does the cores for the chips do? Does each core do a different thing to make the computer run smoother and if you have so many programs and drives (multiple harddrives and Burners) working at once.

2) I am not a gamer but I do watch videos and media on my computer so graphics must be excellent. I do alot of web browsing and multiple programs running while surfing. It will have 3 sata harddrives, 2 maybe 3 DVD burners and I want one burner to be working on one thing while the other burner be working on a totally different thing while I am web surfing and everything run smoothly without any interuptions and perfect speed on the browsing of the web.

3) The CPU must be fast at all times and if I can learn this OC thing which hopefully I can, I want it definitlly to go over 4.2GHZ or faster. The faster the better.

I guess this is enough questions for now. Sorry from this Noobie. I have built 3 computers and they all have been AMD and I have my eyes on the AMD 5000+ BE but it can only go to 3.3 or 3.4.

Erm... The only duals that would hit over 4Ghz that you would run 24\\7 is the E8400 and E8500. The Q9650 or any of the Qextreme series are the only quads that would run 24\\7 at 4.2Ghz.

I'm not even sure if AMD chips will clock that far without a WC setup (even then...).

Yea, if you are rich then you can go quad with over 4 Ghz, but normally, only a E8400/E8500 can go over 4 Ghz. Are you sure you will need 4Ghz? Or are you just thinking it "The Pentium 4 way"?

Lol, then forget 4Ghz.

Do you plan on buying a heatsink so you can overclock? That can run $30-50... So basically rule out getting a quad core. A E7200 is probably going to be your only option.

I have always built computers that are AMD and Are straight where there GHZs say they run at. since I do not know OC. I wanted to see what the Intel way is. people say you can make them faster by OC but I do not know how. But I could get a AMD 5000+ BE and just change the volts and it will stay cool and will get to 3.3Ghz.
