[CHOICE] Australia get ripped-off! - Page 2

Yeah, we get the same thing here in New Zealand. Digital downloads for games are starting to make a hell of a lot more sense as you can pick games up for sometimes $40+ less than retail. Every new release game here ranges from $99 to $130.

NZ is worse than here. UK is worse than NZ.

Nigeria takes the cake though. You could honestly say your PC costs a couple of mil.

Mmm..and it costs 99.93 here so thats a big difference. I never heard of a $48 dollar increase with a tariffs.
The article wasn't very specific...

Quote:
We surveyed a range of computer products — software, an external hard drive, MP3 player, printer and PC game — to compare the Australian prices with US prices. On the whole, local prices were significantly higher.
Did they compare newegg prices to that of a local(AUS) shop? Did they figure out what the shop/retailer in Australia pays wholesale? Perhaps it's the local merchants marking up products to offset the cost of running their business? Tariffs(not sure if applicable or what the rates are) + Tax(Goods and Service Tax = 10%) + Shipping + Retail/local markup + cost of currency conversion(there is a fee for this)...

IMHO this is more of a rant than an article.

It's more than 15%. I'm guessing 20-30% depending on the sales volume. Oh well
