GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 Memory problems

Thread Starter
I can't get the GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 to post with 4 sticks of Corsair Dominator (1066) installed (8gb total). I keep getting the memory beep code. I can get both sticks to work seperately for 6 gb total. Both slots also seem to work just fine. The board is supposed to support up to 16 gb. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Added +.05v and now no beep code, but it won't post still. Should my memory be set as ganged or unganged?

How high should I go on voltage?

4 sticks of RAM put a huge load on the memory controller of the CPU. So u have to add some voltage to the cpu also. And i think u need at least 2.2v for those 4 sticks of ram or may be more. What is the manufacturer recommended voltage for ur ram? I think it is 2.4~2.5. If so then calculate how much u are putting and how much more u need.

They say it is 2.1v.

Will I be able to overclock my cpu with that much ram?

I'm kind of worried about voltages. I thought the ram was a lot more sensitive to voltage.

I don't want to do it, but would it be worth it to run just 6 gb of ram?

It is always a bit hard to overclock with all four slots of ram populated. Anyway increase the voltage to 2.1v and give it a shot. Nothing to loose.

No luck at 2.1v. Should I run 6gb or 4gb of ram? I sent a message to Gigabyte support to see if they had any ideas.

Or is there anything else I can try to get the 8gb working?

Try with 4 GB of RAM and see if things work out. If ok then u can add the rest 4 gb and raise the cpu and ram voltage to see what happens

The 4gb runs fine so does 6gb, but I can't get 8gb to work. Will things overclock better with 6gb or 4gb?

I would go with 4 gb to see the OC potential of my combo. Then i would add the rest and do some tweaking in the bios to see if things come out fine.
