*UPDATED* 4 HDDs In 1 Month??

Well, last night I finally made it home to my new parts waiting for me. Seagate has sent me 4 refurbished drives to replace my originals. That's ok with me because at least I know they work. I can't exactly say I'm happy with my MSI RMA. They sent my motherboard right back to me. Same serial number, hell, even my Tuniq backplate has remained on there. They had my motherboard for AT MOST 2 days and then sent it back to me. I'm going to call them today to find out exactly what they did to it. Did I really pay $25 and go beastless for 2 weeks for them to update my BIOS (speculation)? Was I out of line to expect a different motherboard? I have everything put back together and it seems to be working peachy, for now. I will be really angry if I find out MSI didn't even make an attempt to repair my motherboard. At least the rebagged it and sent it back to me with 1/5 of the packaging I used.

I've apparently managed to kill 4 HDDs in one month. First I purchased 2 Seagate 250GB SATAII drives to go along with my new build. Less than a month later, my computer wouldn't boot and got stuck at detecting array. Well, I removed one of the HDDs and was able to install Windows on the other. The strange thing was that there were no clicking, clunking sounds associated with falure. At this point, I was missing my RAID 0 like any normal person would. I then purchased 2 more of the same Seagate HDDs. The singular HDD I was using at the time failed AGAIN while the other two were on their way. I figured no biggie, I had 2 more coming, WRONG! Last night I got off my ass and installed the 2 brand new Seagates I had just recieved last week. I tried to install Windows and got no where. BSOD just after the boot drive selection in Windows setup. I figured I had something wrong in my BIOS related to RAID settings.

Today I get home from work, try to install Windows again and get the same BSOD. Now, after a reset, at least one of the drives sounds like a cricket. Chirping, skipping, scratching, you name it.

Needless to say, I am pretty angry right now. Once I again, I can't get past "detecting array."

BTW the reason I knew the first set of HDDs failed is becuase my computer was literally skipping like a CD before it completely froze. The mouse would skip, sounds would skip etc. Now with these new drives, I can't even boot the Windows install disk. I will never buy Seagate again. $250 in HDDs down the drain. I should have just bought 2 Raptors like I was going to.

ouch man.... maybe there's something else that is killing the drives.... that is one WIERD set of circonstances....

Maybe motherboard port or Power supply cables?
Is your case on an angle? Angles can mess up drives. especially if it moves

My case sits flat on the floor. I really don't think it's my power supply. The only outside source I can think of would be the SATA or RAID on the motherboard.

Do the drives work okay outside of a RAID array?

Have they only failed since you put them into an array?

I believe that your drives have a 5 year (or at least a 3 year) warranty on them, just RMA!

Premature deaths with hard drives are actually more common than you'd think.

Working for a repair shop, seeing dead drives is painfully common. We get machines that are just weeks old with bad hard drives. We once got 3 DOA drives from a manufacturer in a row

When I built the computer, I immediately set up an array. After a month my computer was literally skipping. I removed the suspect HDD and was able to use the second for about a week before it started doing the same thing.

Once again, the two new drives were immediately striped.

BTW I reverted back to stock setttings (not overclocked) when I first had a problem with the originals.

I don't think Newegg would take the original two drives will they? It's been 3 months almost. I really don't want any more of these Seagates.

Actually, I think the problem started when I had a "Flyers Suck" avatar.

Is it possible that something on my mobo is killing the drives?
