nVidia drivers for Vista sucks, most people have nVidia cards, thats why people think Vista sucks.
Say what you want about vista. It's never given me a problem and XP has given me tons of problems with the same hardware. I have a nVidia card. I've experience no problems. I don't think I've even seen a single crash since I switch to using vista 64 only about 3 months ago.

If windows 7 is going to be on the same level as vista or better I'll get it. I'll have to skip it if anything like XP.

Personally I don't like the idea of windows releasing a new OS so soon. Vista has only been out for a year. A replacement for it shouldn't be around the next corner. I'm not a vista fanboy. I tried it out and liked what I had. Keeping in mind that I'm talking about the 64 bit version of vista with 4 gigs of ram. To prove I'm not a fanboy the 64 bit of XP had also given me 0 problems during my 2 months free trial period. I just had problems getting support for XP 64.

If i recall Microsoft published a report of what they found concerning Vista crash reports and found that nVidia's code was the cause of 60% (or was it 80%? I know it was at least 60%) of all Vista crashes. Obviously a huge number.

Get an ATI machine on the other hand and you have 2% of all crashes and a much better Vista experience. I've used both brands and can thoroughly tell you this is true.
I can verify this. I'm running Vista64 on the my M1530 laptop and Nvidia drivers crash quite frequently (though they are improving with the newer builds, there's still some work left). I'm also running Vista64 on my desktop system with a Radeon 3850 and it has yet to crash, running the same install for about 4 months now. I really think Vista, specifically 64-bit, is a nice improvement over XP. Once you give it the initial period to let superfetch do its thing, it flies. At first I was skeptical that it would make a difference, but it does.

I really don't think its Microsoft's place to be able to control what hardware drivers are put out for whatever OS. I know in XP, you can install a driver without a signature. In vista, there is no easy way around it.
Just like XP, you can install driver without a signature in Vista. You will just get a red prompt asking for your permission, same as XP.

And please, Ram is soo cheap now, you can grab another 1gb stick and just maybe you will experience the smoothness you might be longing for.

I am running Vista64 on my XPS m1530. I have yet to experience a crash regarding Video drivers. Check Laptopvideo2go.com for newer versions of nvidia go drivers.

i loved vista when i tried it.. from beta clear on up... only reason i havent bought it is price wise..

i personally believe instead of having "upgrade" versions. those who wish to upgrade their current system with say windows me/xp should get the install disks at a discount...

i believe apple does something to cheapen the price for "upgrading" since your a previous loyal customer... (correct me if im wrong about apple) i would like to see. say 18 month releases from windows. not as "dramatic" upgrades. but cheaper too. say 30$... or even 50$.

i mean... is it sooo wrong for a customer to expect a little gratification from the company?

LMAO if you wasn't running a half-assed system you would get better than a half-assed results!

I did have some issues a year ago... but that has been history for some time now.

Everybody wants to bash new OS's just like they bashed XP and any other OS that ever came out on the market.

Vista is a HELL OF A LOT BETTER than XP will ever be!

Just my 2 cents...

prefetching != performance. ANY OS can prefetch. It doesn't increase performance; it just makes use of idle time.

By performance, I'm talking about raw number crunching. Super Pi, F@H, games, and the like. Prefetching can increase productivity, but it doesn't increase performance.

You know what i mean, the "quickness" of the system. Responsiveness, is another good word.
