Random crashing due to ram?

Thread Starter
ok, so my computer just crashs almost randomly.. if i dont start it for like 1 day it will load all the way to windows and crash, if i start it right after that it dosnt get past the ramcount/biso page(right at the start) i even loaded the bios at one stage to see if i could fix it there , and yes.. crashed. seems to be bad ram. but i dont get that the longer i leave it be , the better it works? its not over heating , i have quite a cool system.

well i orded in new ram in > http://pcmaniacs.com.au/platinum-6400-2x1gb-p-3717.html
Should do nicely.

im posting cos the more i think about this the more it makes me think its not ram , or a virus made the problem and will kill the new ram i get too.

Can you please post your system specs or update your profile? (The latter is helpful in future posts.)

When booted up into the OS, does it give an error message before it crashes? If it were the memory, the easiest test to see which stick is affected is to take out one at a time.

Other than that, it can either be 2 things: the motherboard or the power supply. Motherboard will usually power on after fail - almost all of the company laptops and media desktops I've worked with all have that option. The MOBO also beeps if you have a system speaker attached.

Most of us use Memtest to verify RAM is working correctly (or not).
