Just got the Z5500's - Page 6

I have my port pointed at the wall and only 3-4 inches from it, it seems louder and shouldn't be harmful to it.

I've read somewhere that your suppose to have the sub in the corner of the room with the port facing one wall and the actually sub output facing the other wall. Is this true?

Depends what you're going for quality wise - "corner loading" a speaker can increase bass volume at certain frequencies, but often creates standing waves at others. A standing wave, when you're talking about acoustics, is a sound wave that bounces off a hard surface (like the wall) but does not change phase - either effectively canceling out any other waves coming at the same frequency or greatly amplifying them depending on whether the nodes of the wave line up, or are in between each other.

Thread Starter
I have my the actual speaker of my sub facing the wall with the port pointing outwards to the right. The sub is right to the left of my feet, underneath my desk. Works wonders.

Unfortunately I have my computer setup in my basement for the cooler temps and the walls aren't really good to have the bassport facing it so turning it towards the floor and an inch above the floor seems to work much better then have it facing the wall. I'll get the picture of the other sub I use up in a few minutes.

Ok so just took pictures of the sub and the satellites speakers from the other sounds system I'm using in conjunction with the z5500.

Hold onto those speakers! You are a lucky guy, sillykid. That set was infamous a little while ago, because plenty of wholesalers were unloading them for pennies and that sats are basically Mirage Nanosats (which retail for about $120 per speaker)

Yeah I got 2 sets of them and one I use with the z5500 and the other I have set up in my room. The only gripe I have about them is the buzzing when they aren't being used but other than that they are crazy good. I only got the z5500 because they were only $140 and I like the control pod.

For any intrested I took the time to write an comparision between the 5300 series and the 5500 series, which is located here

THX

To the poster that had faced the port towards the ground, Just so you are aware you have pretty much turned the ported enclosure into that of a sealed by blocking the port way. To each their own though.

I have these speakers in a perfect 5.1 surround setup.. It is simply UNBEATABLE when you're playing CoD4, Mass Effect or pretty much any activity that involves sound.

I love the Sub. Sometimes it is overly powerful, especially because I live in a big open space, it can really spread to the floors above me. But it makes an AMAZING footrest.

I bought these when they were up in the 350 dollar range.. and I would pay that price again ANY day.
