A GUI F@H installer for Linux! - Page 13

post #121 of 214
@GoG:
What part of my installer didn't work?

@biatchi:
Yeah the one reason I don't like the auto run after install is you can't set anything.

I wouldn't suggest combine everyones code together like that again. Not the best of practices. A lot of things are broke and there's a possible security hole now. Also adding comments to show who wrote every part or what every line does makes the code extremely hard to read.

I agree. If you choose to not run after install you still have to start it manually in a terminal to change config which imo defeat the whole purpose of having a gui in the first place. I still think the way I have it set up in OCnix is far more elegant and actually easier using your script ( thank you by the way )

I may add to your script to give an option to to choose multiple installs and then maybe use the screenrc and script I personally use to launch in the background at boot.

No problem. I actually like the old text installer I wrote better. A little easier to work with. Could give me a link to it? Is the one you use on box.net? I don't have a copy of it anymore and I have some fun ideas for it.

Meh, I thought it might work alright but I wasn't sure... That's why I didn't put it up on the front page yet. I was just excited about learning parameters. Do you really think we could have a security hole like that?

I keep getting errors with in your code at the end of if statements. I mentioned it earlier... if I'm the only one getting this problem, it could be something to do with the Wubi install. Well we can chuck that program then. I'll go back to figuring out where to put the md5sum check in a let dangerousHobo work on his installer.

@biatchi
You are right about the text installer. It does make it easier, but I put my case up earlier about why we should have a GUI. I tried to burn a copy of OCNix64, but I did it at the highest speed because I was in a hurry. Needless to say I had a bad burn... When I get home I'll burn it at 1. If I tried to download it here, it would take around 2-3 days.... (assuming the internet doesn't die on me.

Update from my end, we should have something uploaded for testing as far as a package manager "detector" tomorrow.. i thought i'd have more time to work on this today(read: friday), but no such luck.

Thanks for that "elif" bit... should help quite a bit

EDIT:
Attached is the Package Manager check file. its called check (that should probably changed to something more suitable...)

anyway, it checks for the installation directories of the 7 package managers, and the variable "pkgMan" gets the appropriate integer assigned to it..

The only exception to it looking for an installation directory is when searching for adept in kubuntu.. since it works off the same apt backend, this is the first if statement, as to not accidentally identify an adept installation as an apt install.

This gets me thinking though, i may re-write this using the executables as a check rather than the install directory.. well, try it out and make sure its in order..

to run:
Code:
cd directory
bash check
or:
  • navigate to the file
  • double click
  • run in terminal

I thought the line ./libs.sh could be a security hole, but looking at it I don't think that line will run as you didn't specify it as a shell script in the file or when you executed it so the interpreter wont know what to do with it.

If it could run though, since its not running any checks and just running everything I could probably get it to run some arbitrary code. (look at edit below)

I got the same errors when running the script in ubuntu too but not in arch or slackware or foresight. So I think its just ubunpoo. Whats this Wubi?

EDIT:

You'll want to use the check FMC posted above.

was just going through my favorites folder, and remembered we were working on this... i figured it could use a bump since we were getting onto something there

Also GodofGrunts, seems to be MIA from overclock.net, but does pop up on aim now and then..

The time may be nigh for trying a GPU installer too, i've read a few posts on people who have successfully gotten it to run under GNU

I followed a very similar guide on the Gentoo forums for my workstation at work and it worked quite well
