I'm going to re-write a list of priorities tonight and we can discuss those.
I'm done with Finals!!
So I can get to working on something. I was going to update my linux script and add in stuff for FreeBSD and rewrite the Perl GUI in C to cut out some dependencies. Sound good? I plan to do it all tonight. I thought the more flexible and a few dependencies (bash, C are standard, same with gtk and cairo on 99% of distros) would be the best way to go. What do you think?

Guys, I've been monitoring this thread (and others) and if this thread is personal now rather than on topic could you guys rename it. (Possibly merge it with similar ones?). Not complaining but trying to keep track of lots of threads.

Out of sheer curiosity, have you encountered any of the 1% without those dependencies installed or is that just a placeholder for the eventuality? I sometimes find myself wondering the threshold of standard packages for everyone to have installed by default..

GoG, I was thinking about taking a crack at the GPU installer.. have you started on that already?

It's more just for the eventuality. Our code works now, but it's not as clean as it could be.

And I haven't. You are more then welcome to take a crack at it.

Well like right now that GUI I did some time ago in Perl/Gtk+ require the Perl binding to Gtk which not all distros have. Like Slackware for example it only has the standard Gtk/Cairo/etc libs (which are for C), and any distro that has Gtk will have those but the other wrappers are not always a given. (wrappers for languages like C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, D, etc).

Hello all!

Finally an update!

Um, so being the ADHD programmer that I am, I "rewrote" the entire thing in C++. I must say it's noticeably faster. Anyway, sorry for taking 1 step forward and 3 steps back guys. I'm attempting a GUI in QT 4 designer and working on a config file maker. Y'all are still more then welcome to help out. I'll attach the main.c and the config.c (what I have of it anyway) so you can see what I'm doing. I'd still like to add an a MD5sum check and a package manager finder/updater. I know FMC wrote one a little while ago. I'll look at it here soon and see if I can add it in. dH if you know a way of using your Perl GUI with the new executable that would be awesome.

hey GoG, good to see this back in action.. I took a look at the code, but won't be able to run it until after work(ahem.. i'm now rocking Vista on one of the 3D machines).

on the whole, looks good. I might suggest one change in config.c, however. Maybe instead of the menacing "YOU MUST PROVIDE INPUT FOR EVERYTHING!", we just check for null string and complain if the user failed to enter their username..

as for the package checker, it was just a shell script, so we could embed it in system calls and if statements.. but I'd still like to change it to check for the actual executables as opposed to their installation directories.
